Welcome

Welcome to „Made in Rye‟, the first fund raising event in support of Rye Studio School for the Creative Industries, the most exciting and innovative project in Rye and indeed in South East England for decades. The Studio School will teach 14 – 19 year olds from Ashford to Eastbourne the skills they need to compete in the fastest expanding sector of the British economy. They will study their own creative interest, whether it be photography, fashion or production arts, plus business. They will take BTECs and A levels, and it is expected they will go on to university, start their own business, and gain apprenticeships. They will learn through work experience, projects, master classes and personal coaching. Every child must feel that they can take advantage of every opportunity offered and so tonight we are raising money for a travel bursary fund. We have a magnificent evening ahead of us which I hope you will enjoy. You will see our plans for the school and benefit from some of the entertainment skills our young people are acquiring ahead of their move to the Studio School. I would like to thank everyone who has helped put this evening together and have worked tirelessly to ensure that a good time will be had by all. Please show your appreciation by giving generously to the raffle and auction - it is to ensure that the young people of Rye can play a full part in one of the UK‟s success stories – the Creative Industries.

Message from Jo Townshend, Principal Rye Studio School

Great excitement, anticipation and enthusiasm is bubbling at every corner as Rye awaits its Studio School for Creative Industries. Young people from 14-19 will be able to access an outstanding education that will combine traditional qualifications with employability skills, enrichment opportunities from cultural exchanges to Denmark to study visits in New York, plus a portfolio of work references with a network of world class contacts. We have gained support from the De La Warr Pavilion to the Turner Contemporary, from the White Rock and Stables Theatres to Pinewood Shepperton Studios, and from local Rye businesses to Deloitte Switzerland. The Cabinet Office has named us a Champion School in our development and delivery of the National Citizens Scheme, available inclusively to all senior students, and this is just the beginning…. I am delighted that the Rye Studio School has attracted such inspirational Patrons, who are a dynamic force under the chairmanship of Jacqui Lait, and who have created a wonderful evening for us all to enjoy. I would like to extend my thanks to all those who have donated so generously, and to you all here this evening for your support. I wish you a most enjoyable evening.
