A Covenant of Dedication for Emmy Lou Ethridge

and her parents, Ty and Mary Ethridge

Life Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. —Proverbs 3:5-6

Litany of Dedication Pastor: Lord, you have blessed Mary and Ty with the gift of children. Today, we welcome Emmy Lou in the same spirit that You welcome us, Your children. We give thanks for all of our children and the joy they bring to our families. Parents: We thank you, Lord, for the gift of Emmy Lou. Pastor: I pray that you will draw upon all the resources of faith, love, and discipline to aid her on her journey through life. Life is a gift of God that is meant to be lived in an attitude of praise. Do you promise to raise her in an environment of faith and love? Parents: We do. Pastor: Will you as family members freely give of yourselves to Emmy Lou, nurturing her and loving her in the special ways that only you can supply? Family: We will. Pastor: Will this congregation recognize Emmy Lou as a gift from God? Will you pray for her as she grows in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and people? Will you pray for her parents, extended family and new church family as they surround Emmy Lou with the same love and grace that surrounds her today? People: We will.

Congregational Prayer: O God, we give you joyful thanks and praise for the beautiful gift of Emmy Lou’s life. Bring her by grace to Your baptism, that Christ may dwell in her heart through faith. Give power to Emmy Lou and to us, that we may grasp the breadth and length, the height and depth, of Christ’s love. Enable us to know this love through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

CONFESSION (Isaiah 6:5)

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Invitation to Confession. . . Sanctuary Choir

“The Lord Is in His Holy Temple”...George R. Root

The Lord is in His holy temple. Let all the earth keep silence before Him. —Habbakuk 2:20

EXPIATION (Isaiah 6:6-7)

Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

PROCLAMATION (Isaiah 6:8a)

Hymn of Worship No. 298 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ABBOT’S LEIGH

“God Is Here” Morning Prayer (with The Lord’s Prayer). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .John Uldrick

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Musical Offering. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sanctuary Choir

“My Eternal King”...Jane Marshall My God, I love Thee; not because I hope for heaven thereby,

Nor yet because who love Thee not must die eternally. Thou, O my Jesus, Thou didst me upon the cross embrace;

For me didst bear the nails and spear, and manifold disgrace.

Why, O blessed Jesus Christ should I not love Thee well? Not for the hope of winning heaven, nor of escaping hell. Not with the hope of gaining aught, nor seeking a reward,

But as Thyself hast loved me, O everlasting Lord!

E’en so I love Thee, and will love, and in Thy praise will sing, Solely because Thou art my God, and my eternal King!

Sermon . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rev. Matt DuVall

Family Worship This is the last Sunday of the month. The last Sunday is designated as a “Family Worship” day and all children sit with their families. Children’s Worship will return next Sunday. Child care is available during worship for all children younger than kindergarten. Joining First Baptist We receive new members in several ways. Those who have never publicly acknowledged Christ as Lord join by public profession of faith. Baptism is scheduled for a later date. Members of other Baptist congregations may transfer their membership to our congregation. We handle the details of contacting your current church. Members of other Christian faith traditions are invited to join by “statement of faith.” Because other traditions vary in belief and practice, those joining by statement of faith are invited to speak with a minister before joining so that they might answer questions. Recording All services are recorded and may be viewed on our website. If you would like a video or audio copy of today’s service, please call the office. Safety Safe zones for severe weather are in preschool hallways for children and the Fellowship Hall for the congregation. If there is a need to evacuate the building, parents should pick up children at the bus parking lot on the far side of First Presbyterian Church. Prayer Concerns (Please place in offering plate or hand to an usher or minister.) ________________________________ ________________________________
