A MAN NAMED JOHN It would have been so easy to rel-

to the sidelines. He was evidently a

loner, at least in the beginning. His

He kept pointing toward a time

It would have been easy to dismiss

On June 24, the Church celebrates

the birth of John the Baptist. We re-

ny is astonishing: our progress has not eliminated our fundamental need

for the hope that is held out to us by John. One solitary voice – crying in a

desert wilderness. That voice is crying out for you and for me. Listen and

prepare to encounter the person about whom John speaks – Jesus Christ.

Have you been worshiping with us, but never officially took the step to become Catholic?

Have you been away from the church and have now returned, but want to know more? Have you been a Catholic all your life, but never celebrated all the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist?) Have you joined us from a different background and would now like to find out more about the Catholic Church? If any of the above questions apply to you, we would love to help you in your journey. Or, if you know of anyone who could answer YES to any of the above questions, perhaps you could extend an invitation to them! In recent years, there has been a great increase in the number of adults who are

joining the Catholic Church. RCIA is a program designed to help non-Catholics and non-practicing Catholics learn more about the Catholic faith through a series of classes, discussions, prayer times and ceremonies. This program helps people grow in faith and knowledge of God, and develop a deeper relationship with God as they consider be-coming Catholic. If you are not yet sure whether you want to become Catholic, you are still welcome to participate as you make your decision. There is no obligation to join the Catholic Church and regardless of your decision you are always welcome here at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish. To find out how you may participate in the RCIA process, please contact Sr. Nancy Citro, SND at (617) 242- 4664 or [email protected]. We look forward to welcoming you!

Sacristy Repairs and Remodeling

Over the next few weeks, the sacristy in the upper church is undergoing major repairs. I understand that in 1961 there was a fire in that space and, when things were put back together, the back wall was never insulated. Conse-quently, the space is freezing in the winter and holy oils and other items have frozen. Water damage from frozen areas has damaged vestments and books and the like. Furthermore, the space was designed to serve liturgies as they were in the 1800’s and is inadequate for this time. Storage for vestments and space for ministers to prepare for Sunday Mass is badly needed.

To address all these issues the space is being remodeled and upgraded. We expect to be accommo-dating the construction period for a few weekends. However, with storage in the lower church hall and in front of the St. Joseph altar area there should be no inconvenience for all concerned.

We will include pictures of the progress in coming weeks!
