Intro – David’s Line• ~1000 BC – The Reign of King David– This is the height of God's people in the Old

Testament, which is the physical nation of Israel.• 2 Sam 7:11-12; 16– God said David was a man after his own heart. – God promises there is a kingdom that will endure

forever. • Ps 89:3-4– David's lineage will be established forever. – Since it's impossible for men to live forever how is

the prophecy of an “eternal line” going to work?

Kiss The Son: Intro - OT PropheciesPs 89:24-29• 26 He will call out to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the Rock my

Savior.' • 27 I will also appoint him my firstborn, the most exalted of the kings of

the earth.• 29 I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens

endure.– He will rule over the seas. Luke 8:22-25 (Calms the storm) – He will call God "father." Luke 2:49 (Found in his “Father’s house”)– He is the firstborn [of God]. Luke 3:22 (Baptized, “…you are my son…”)– He is the most exalted of all kings of earth. (Rev 17:14, Rev 19:12-16)– God has an eternal covenant with and through him (Heb 9:15) and his throne is

eternal. (1 Tim 1:17)• Ps 132:11

– Remember, this prophetic throne is the one that lasts forever and ever. So we understand, "a son of" in the mind of the Hebrews is the same as "a descendant." It's their way of talking about their legacy.

Isaiah’s time (~750BC)Isa 9:6-7The ZEAL of the LORD = "Jealousy or Envy" - "qin'ah" in Hebrew. God’s ZEAL will accomplish this!

Isa 1:4 - God is jealous for all of our heart!•Ex 34:14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous , is a jealous God. •Deut 4:24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.•Zech 8:22 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.“

He said to me, "You are my Son;today I have become your Father. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends

of the earth your possession. 9 You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to

pieces like pottery." 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way,for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take

refuge in him.

#1 Giving God Zeal or Doing What You Feel?

• Luke 1:1-4 & Luke 1:26-38• This makes sense she'd ask this - "how will this be?" There are

some complications - she's engaged.• Technically, betrothed. The ancient world - marriage was in two

steps. The first was the betrothal, when the bride-price was paid and the agreement made. A year later, then the actual marriage when the groom takes his bride, his new wife, home.

• No mention of her father or mother is made. It's implied she is an orphan. This is a scary place to be, pregnant by someone else than your betrothed and without mom/dad to look after you.

• Amazing heart - "I am the Lord's servant!"

#2 Giving God Your Trust Or Taking Control?

• Prov 3:3-8 (verse 5, context)• Walking /Talking/Loving God, daily. Let love and faithfulness never leave you.• Every single day of those 9 months, with all the ridicule, suspicion from the

in-laws, and even the hardship - she had to decide to trust in the Lord will all her heart. Every day.

• In all your paths...it's hard to see ourselves objectively. Wise in our own eyes, means we don't seek advice. We've got it figured out. We don't take direction. (1 Thess 5:12-13)– Symptom of not trusting in God. Symptom of being far from him.– Resenting those in authority. Don't fear the LORD. Can't be humble when you

don't trust the LORD. – Want to be in control of everything, have our relationship with God on our own

terms.– Ironic: No fear of God, impossible to trust Him

• Mary is a powerful example of humility at this juncture of her life.
