English Course Placement
❖ *Currently, every student is placed in regular English for the next grade level. Teachers will make a recommendation as to which English class they think would be most beneficial for each student’s learning and continued growth. This recommendation will be based on two factors:1. The teacher’s observations and analysis of student work and growth from
August to present
2. A student portfolio that demonstrates a student’s proficiency, desire, and ownership and includes writing samples, quarter and semester grades, Global Scholars’ scores, and a self-evaluation
• *Recommendations will be emailed home after April 19. If you agree with the recommendation, you don’t need to do anything; the school counselors will update the course selection form. If you would like to parent place, which is a process for overriding the teacher’s recommendation and signing into the Advanced English course at the next grade level, you are required to complete the parent placement form before May 31st.
