Lenten Wholeness Program
St. Matthew’s will be working with the folks from Living Compass to offer a six-week program focused on habits of wellness for body, mind, and soul. Listening With All Your Heart, Soul, Strength, and Mind provides a foundation to help us explore a deeper connection between faith and our capacity to listen to God. Each participant will receive a workbook full of reflections and habits for consideration.
Lecture and small group on Sunday mornings at 9:15 is supplemented by individual reflections for each day of Lent. Every participant will receive a complimentary workbook, but is expected to make 3 of the 6 Sunday gatherings. Class is capped at 40 people. Please email Fr. Christian as slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. St. Matthew’s Labyrinth in Lent | February 26 to April 14
Come to the labyrinth and offer up your walking prayers in the presence of our Lord. God goes before you, and beside you. You are never alone. In the stillness of the labyrinth, God is revealing to you the path of Life day by day, and moment by moment. All groups and individuals are invited and encouraged to visit and experience walking the labyrinth. Whether you attend a meeting or training or Bible study or a healing service, you can experience the holy silence of peace and comfort as you walk the labyrinth.
You can gain access to the labyrinth during the week by picking up a key in the church office during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, and returning the key when finished. Instructions are available at the site of the labyrinth.
“Holy and Gracious God... fountain of all wisdom, be ever present to those who walk the labyrinth seeking your guidance, that they may here be enlightened and strengthened for their journey, and grown in knowledge and love of you, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.” AMEN

Offshoot Small Groups are Branching Out
Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and
our neighbor. This initiative grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body
of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners,

The Heifer Animals are back!
Our Annual Lenten Project for Heifer is underway. Please HELP Fill the Ark.
Heifer International is a global nonprofit organization with a proven solution to ending hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. Heifer doesn’t “feed” families; they help families feed themselves.
In Family Service this week, the children will be given Fill the Ark Calendars and Ark Banks. The cal-endar provides more information about the Heifer Animals and creative suggestions of how your child might raise money to fill their Ark Bank.
Visit the Heifer Table in the Commons following today’s service. We will have information on all the Heifer Animals and how your giving can make a difference in the lives of families around the world. We also have Heifer Gift Cards available for each $10 donated, a nice way to let someone special know that a gift to Heifer was given in their honor.

Hughes Kairos #40 Weekend Update
The Kairos #40 weekend has come and gone. Your prayers, financial support, baking of cookies, and the hard work of many was all put to really good use. We experienced a great Christian transformation of the 42 offenders (inmates) that attended this three-day pilgrimage that started Thursday night, March 2, at the Hughes men’s maximum security unit in Gatesville.
All of these men were touched, and many literally wept, as they accepted the Love, Grace, and Mercy of Jesus Christ through this Kairos weekend. This weekend experience is just the beginning as they set out on their journey with Christ, putting to use the tenets of Kairos – Discovery (Study), Spirituality (Prayer), and Action, in their daily lives within the prison walls.
I’m also happy to say that with the excitement and enthusiasm of Susan Goodman and Travis Helms, the February Youth Mixer (grades 3rd through 12th) met in Huffman Hall and baked over 100 dozen cookies for this Kairos weekend. While this was a fun and exciting time for them, it also taught them about Kairos and why it’s important for us to support this ministry through something as simple as baking and praying over cookies. We hope this becomes an annual event!
In Kairos, we’re taught that it’s not customary to thank those who volunteer and provide gifts of support since the real pro-vider is God, working through each of us. Though it’s important to share with you how your many gifts to this ministry, and particularly this Kairos #40 weekend, has and will continue to positively influence the lives of these men AND those they interact with inside the prison walls. Lent Madness Began Thursday, March 2
If you’d like to learn about the saints whose feast days we celebrate throughout the year, often in our Wednesday Healing Service, you might enjoy playing along with Lent Madness, Forward Movement’s fun program! It’s like March Madness, complete with a bracket, only with saints. This is a light-hearted Lenten devotional with a serious purpose; I enjoy taking a few moments each day to read about the two saints of the day, and praying their collects. This lends a depth to my day as I contemplate the service of those who have gone before.
Here’s how to participate: on the weekdays of Lent, information is posted at www.lentmadness.org about two different saints. Each pairing remains open for 24 hours as participants read about and then vote to determine which saint moves on to the next round. Sixteen saints make it to the Round of the Saintly Sixteen; eight advance to the Round of the Elate Eight; four make it to the Faithful Four; two to the Championship; and the winner is awarded the coveted Golden Halo. St. Matthew’s Elementary Children’s Choir Family Service Sundays | 9:45 – 10:15 am | Huffman Hall
Exciting news—the St. Matthew’s Children’s Choir has started and continues to grow! Elementary-age students and older gather in Huffman Hall from 9:45 – 10:15 am, right before the Family and sanctuary services! Parents and siblings are invited during our Family Fellowship time to visit with other parishioners and visitors while the children practice.
Mary Smith, our new Children’s Music Coordinator, has been working with the children to learn new songs that will be sung/ performed in the Family Service as well as our monthly combined Sanctuary services. We are thrilled to get this minis-try up and running and hope you will join us. All boys and girls, elementary-school age and older, are encouraged to join.

Family Fellowship on Sunday mornings is a wonderful time for families to connect! It is a casual and relaxed “conversation time” so that we can all get to know one another better. Children can participate in Lego Sunday School, Children’s Choir, or play in the Huffman Nursery. We invite families of all ages to join us before church. We gather in Huffman Hall from 9:30 – 10:15. Building on our Lego-based Sunday School curriculum from last semester, Travis and/or Susan will be present a new Bible story each Sunday. Clergy will pop in, too, from time to time. We are hopeful that this will give folks a chance to con-nect and get to know one another better. If you have a child who likes to sing, consider having them join our children’s choir from 9:45 – 10:15 (more information below).
Summer Camp at Camp Allen
Just a friendly reminder for those looking for an awesome church summer camp that the Diocese of Texas offers one of the premier camps in the nation. Most years, sessions are full by the end of March so now is the time to sign up. Fr. Christian and the Rev. High School Senior Scholarship Opportunity Submission Deadline: April 3, 2017
Scholarships will be awarded to two high school graduating seniors in the Diocese of Texas. All interested seniors at St. Matthew can submit an application by April 3, 2017 to Don Neely, Director, St Matthew Chapter of the Brotherhood of St Andrew. Chapter Officers will select a single applicant that most adheres to the selection criteria and forward to the Texas Assembly of the Brotherhood for the final selection. Reminder: In 2016, St Matthew's Hailey Nichols was a scholarship re-cipient.
