Drop-in Program The drop-in program is offered to families that only need the second half of the day. It starts at 1:00 p.m. and runs until 6:00 p.m. All rules and expectations are the same. We have a WIDE varieties of activities and programs for all members. One of the stars of our drop-in program is our Summer S.W.A.G. (Summer With A Goal) program.
Target Audience: All members, all ages Time Frame: 6 week period, Monday-Friday 1:00 -2:00 pm Purpose: Research shows that children can lose one to three months of grade level proficiency in both math and reading over the summer school breaks. Students who experience “summer learning loss” over the years are an average of two years behind their peers when they reach the 5th grade. SWAG (Summer With A Goal) provides the educational learning experience that can help prevent summer learning loss. SWAG allows members to participate in a variety of educational activities that reinforce academic concepts. Activities are age/grade level appropriate and focus on: Literacy, Math, Science and Technology. Smarter Summers mean Brighter Futures. Overview: One rotation each day devoted to SWAG activities. For Club K members: The focus will be on learning the alphabet, numbers 1 – 10 and story time. Members will practice writing letters/numbers and potentially draw pictures of words starting with each letter. For grades 1 – 8: There will be a variety of activities for kids to choose from during this time. They will be age/grade level appropriate and will include things such as:
• Literacy/reading programs • DIY STEM activities • Claymation • Summer Brain Gain (either the whole thing or different components) • Drop in activities like: jeopardy, math bingo • Journal Writing • Computer time: Educational websites
Day Camp Expectations The Day Camp program starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. At this time campers are automatically enrolled, at no additional cost, in our drop-in program from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. In order to make a seamless transition into summer, we want to provide you with as much information as possible regarding our programs and what we offer. Below you will find important policies and day-to-day procedures that will most likely apply to you immediately. For a full listing of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego policies and guidelines, please consult the Parent Handbook. You can obtain a copy from the Club or online at www.sdyouth.org. Please read through and initial the following:
Please instruct your child that he/she should not leave the building unless accompanied by an adult staff member. This rule will also be stressed and reinforced by Boys & Girls Club staff.
Please be prepared to show your I.D. at all times. Anyone picking up a Club Member must provide identification to the front desk at the time of pick up.
The Club hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please make the necessary arrangements to have your child/children picked-up by 6:00 p.m. All children must be picked up before 6:00 p.m. Any pick-up after 6:00 p.m. is considered a late pick-up. After 3 late pick-ups, your child/children may be dropped from the program.
Lunch and snack will be provided FREE for your children each day throughout the summer except 4S Ranch. Children may bring their own lunch & snack but we do not have bowls, plates, or the ability to cook.
The Club is not responsible for lost or stolen items. All belongings, especially swimsuits and towels, should be taken home every day. Lost and Found is held for a period of one week, and then is donated to a charitable organization, so please check the box for missing items. This includes cell phones or any electronic device. – Please leave all valuables at home! Children are allowed to have cell phones with them but are expected to remain engaged in the programming offered. They may respond to a parent’s call or text, but otherwise are not to be on phones or any type of electronics while at the Boys & Girls Club. As a reminder, the Club is not responsible for lost or stolen phones or other valuables.
Field Trips occur each week. All Club Members are expected to follow all rules for the safety of themselves and others. Failure to follow the rules at off-site trips will result in removal of future trips.
We consider this to be a partnership between the families and Club staff. We will do what is necessary to make this a successful summer for you and your child/children. We ask that all parents, guardians and family members please show respect to our staff, volunteers and other members. Any aggressive or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and will be subject to removal from the programs.
