Prime Hoggs

Only 83 hoggetts under 45 ½ kg and some of those not the best sorts or meat. Trade remains steady for all with

200p/kg achieved for a few of the smarter sorts. Hoggs topped at £100.00 for a pair of Texel x. Heavy and very heavy

hoggs trading at £88-97.00.

2 tooth sheep trading at around £80.00 head or £15.00 less than lambs teeth.

Spring Lambs

A handful of mainly indoor lambs sold to £92.00 and 244p/kg from Barry Cooper, R & R Hutt took 223p/kg at

39 ½ kg.

Cull Ewes

Continental and Mule x all traded around £60.00 except for very lean sorts.

A mixed entry this week from smart British Blue x close to 30 months to plain small Aberdeen Angus at 33 months.

Amorise Farms, Wootton Wawen topped the day at £1180.00 for a homebred British Blue steer 28 months, others

from the same farm sold at £1180.00, £1102.00 and £1095.00. M/s G W Bush & Son sold their run of Limousin x at

£1100.00 and £1080.00.

The best of the Aberdeen Angus sold to £1068.00 from M/s M & F Bovingdon while outwintered British Blue x dairy

from R A Bywater sold at £990.00 and Hereford x at £948.00. Younger Angus cattle from M/s AB & M Radford sold at

£948.00 at 14 months followed by M/s JE & AJ Wilcox at £892.00.

Amorise Farms sold their pen of British Blue x heifers at £988.00 and £962.00. M/s Bush followed at £948.00,

Aberdeen Angus x from Red Lion Farms sold at 19 months and M/s Radford sold 14 months to £880.00. Herefords

from Mr B Myers sold at £845.00.

Feeding cows sold at £960.00 for Aberdeen Angus and £808.00 for British Blue x.

Similar numbers of clean placed as previous weeks but more cows and OTMs placed bolstering numbers. All outlets keen for stock and some still short of requirements

this looks likely to remain as yards empty rapidly. Supermarkets are running promotions to shift steak meat and address the carcass imbalance – why didn’t they do this a

month ago? Prices stand on apart from the top price payers coming back 3p/kg to be closer to the other firms. Demand for Aberdeen Angus and some grand Beef

Shorthorns achieving strong returns and weights to top at £1404. Young bulls coming in quantity as expected for the time of year. Some outwintered Aberdeen Angus

heifers off grass achieving £1271 for R4L’s.
