Store Cattle – 108 Forward
Auctioneer: Simon Draper
A case of supply and demand today and a continued rise in the beef trade helped store values again. Aberdeen
Angus x in the majority today topping at £1182.00 from Roy Best and Partners who sold others to £1105.00, £1100.00
and £1040.00. M/s Misselbrook sold their trailer load at £1165.00 for two and £1130.00 for the other pair. Dairy x from
Tom Dancer sold to £1095.00. M/s Withers, Andover sold at £1092.00, £1080.00 and £1030.00. Dairy x British Blue
from Anne Merry sold to £1080.00 and £1060.00.
K J Wolfe Farms topped the heifers at £1095.00 for Aberdeen Angus, Anne Merry sold Dairy Angus at £1050.00 while
Roy Best and Partners sold to £1020.00 and £940.00.
Plain feeding cows sold to £820.00 for Simmental while cows with calves sold to £1000.00.
Store Sheep
Just a few ewes about looked a fair shot for mainly odds and sods. Zwartble x Suffolk either fat or lean £70-80.00. Leam
ewes looking dearest pro-rata at £50-60.00 average. Lean things selling better when in the wool, bare this in mind with
lousy wool prices this year.

Still good numbers coming forward meeting keen demand from processors. Prices now ahead of the levels 12 months ago by a couple of pence. Prices up another 5-
10p/kg on the week with commercial ‘R’ grades to 365p/kg. Aberdeen Angus 370-380p/kg and Beef Shorthorns to 380p/kg. Young bulls to 360p/kg. Looking forward the
bite in the trade may be slowing and further big lifts of 10p/kg look unlikely. The ‘uplift’ in demand of catering outlets re-opening is beginning to fall within a normal pattern
of trading but allowing processors to re-balance carcass sales and earn more money per carcass again. This should lead to price increases however numbers of cattle
have come forward with all firms reportedly full of stock and not having to actively compete for supplies. Its been quoted ‘money always runs out before cattle do’. It is
expected for numbers to tighten again shortly and price increases are again likely. Several intensively fed 12-15-month steers and heifers now coming forward and with
the price increase grossing good lump sums. A heavy Aberdeen Angus tops this week at £1701 (R4L) with a U+ Limousin heifer at £1565 and -U Limousin bull to £1517.
