Store Cattle – 245 Forward
Auctioneer: Simon Draper
A strong demand this week for the fleshier cattle as the beef price increases. The shortage of grass had a slightly
depressing effect on the plainer 12/18-month sorts. M/s Misselbrook sold four Aberdeen Angus steers to £1172.00,
£1140.00 x 2 and £1125.00 at 18 months. Keith Slade took £1095.00 at 14 months followed by the Gostrode Trust at
£995.00. British Blue x dairy from M/s Elliott topped at £1080.00 and £1030.00 while Neil Chard took £1050.00.
Suckler bred Limousin x from Keith Slade sold at £1040.00 followed by Gostrode Trust at £1005.00 - 13/14 months.
Blonde x 12 months sold to £1000.00 from Reynolds Farmers. M/s P & D Warren sold several pens of Charolais x
steers to £1070.00 at 15 months with Simmental/Blues to £1025.00 and £1020.00. M/s Osterley Park Farm sold their
outwintered steers to £920.00.
Kevin Wolfe showed 4 marvellous Aberdeen Angus x Charolais heifers 22 months to £1199.00 and £1180.00. British
Blue x dairy 24 months from M/s Elliott topped at £1000.00 while Limousin x from Cedric Mees sold at £990.00 at 17
months, 15 months from Gostrode Trust sold at £915.00. Hereford heifers from Mr Mees sold to £870.00.
Feeding cows topped at £1160.00 for a Pure Charolais from Kevin Wolfe, Richard Cooper sold British Blue x at
£955.00 while Aberdeen Angus sold at £875.00 from Eric Wainwright.
Store Sheep
Unbelievably still a few hoggs about on a Friday. Clean to £74.50 with two toothers at £65.00. Ewes today were nearly
all very fat – a difficult commodity at the minute but selling as competitively as anywhere. Continental x were regularly
£80-85.00. Lean Mules £55-58.00 also looked a very good shout.
Deadweight – Week ending Friday 5th May 2020
Stock sold: 373 Cattle and 525 Spring Lambs
Clean Cattle
Large numbers placed this week as producers make the most of the strong demand for beef at present. We have
experienced a large lift in trade about 40p/kg, however prices are still only at last years levels! The dry weather is
encouraging producers to look at selling some grass cattle to ease grazing pressures. However, cattle appear to be
weighing very well. Trade up another 10p/kg this week with all outlets keen for stock.
WANTED: Organic, Farm Assured Lambs & Cattle & Pasture For Life (PFL) finished cattle.
