A few less lambs in the market which would be the leaner sorts.

Smart Texel and Beltex X the top of the day at 204p/kg from Tom Dancer. Barton Abbey followed at 194 and

191p/kg. John Brown took 193p/kg. Paul Roads sold at 188p/kg and Kate Waddington the same. M/s Hanson

sold 45 ½ kgs at 185p/kg as did Giles Philp.

M/s Connell Partners sold to £90.00 along with Barton Abbey Farms and Leach Farms who also sold at

£88.00 and £86.20. Barton Abbey Farms sold to £86.00 with Trustees of Deeley and J & J Tredwell both

selling at £85.00.

Another excellent sale today especially as this Friday there are sales in most counties. A total clearance was

well achieved with a top price of £1295.00 for a pair of Limousin X steers 19 months from Ron Varney, others

from the same farm sold at £1178.00 and £1175.00. Ron sold his pen of Charolais steers at £1205.00 and

£1122.00. Sulham Estates topped the Simmentals at £1150.00 for 4 with their second pen selling at

£1062.00.

M/s H T White & Co sold their Hereford Steers at £1112.00. M/s A G & J Williams sold their Aberdeen Angus

X Steers at £1080.00. M/s B & D Haynes followed at £1070.00 along with M/s Froud. M/s R E Cox & Son

sold at £1070.00 for 9, followed by Mrs M McDonnell at £1062.00. British Blue X Friesian steers from M/s

Stacey to £1010.00.

Mr L J Rowe topped the heifers with his pen of Aberdeen Angus X at £998.00. M/s Williams from Bradden

followed at £970.00. Sulham Estates sold Simmental at £992.00. Charolais and Blonde X from Peter and

David Morris sell at £948.00 and £938.00.

Cows & Calves sold to £1320.00 for British Blue X from Antony Brazier. Beef Shorthorn in calf cows sold to

£800.00 with steer calf at £600.00.

Store Sheep – 141 Forward

Plenty of quality bred lambs on offer just lacking finish. Only real long keepers were less than £55.00. M/s

CR & S Hickman & Son Sold 60 framed Continental X for £65.00 which was also had by Chess Valley

Livestock for similar goods. Only pipped slightly by Mr J Mawson with £65.50 for shapey Continental X lacking

the finish.

More clean cattle placed on the week. Each week processors try to lower prices but not materialising as they are not able to source

the cattle required. Commercial ‘R’ grade to 350p/kg, ‘R’ grade Angus 430p/kg, and ‘R’ grade Shorthorns to 375p/kg.

A few more early yarded cattle placed this week and by the end of October processors thoughts will be turning to Christmas supplies.

Generally trade eased nationally as plenty of plainer cows hit the market. Our numbers were once more down on the week. Trade

for dairy breeds and lesser types of beef breeds easier on the week.

A grand consignment of fed British Blue X and Limousin X from the depths of Gloucestershire found favour topping at £1291 for a

British Blue X (U+2) and £1174 (R4L). Other beef crosses selling to £1170 (Charolais X at –U3) and £1008 Simmental X (R4H). The

best of the dairy breeds; a Friesian (-O4L) at £802.

OTM’s topping at £1543 (U+3) for a Limousin steer, with Simmental steers at £1443 (U-2+) and £1415 –U3. Over 36 months selling

to £1010 O+4H for Belted Galloways.
