Dear Friends of the Paulding ExemptedVillage Schools,It is difficult to believe there is just a coupleof months left in the 2015-2016 school year.Although the calendar indicates the year iswinding down, we are actually very busywith end of the year activities. Athleticevents, awards programs, concerts and stu-dent programs highlight the months of Apriland May. Please check the district calendar

at www.pauldingschools.org and support ourstudents with your attendance at these cele-

brations. Our last day of school this year isscheduled to be May 24, 2016. We currentlyhave missed 23 instructional hours whichincludes 2 full days cancelled and 10 two/three hour delays.State testing is just around the corner. Themajority of students in grades 3-11 will betaking some type of state assessment thisschool year. As we did last year, studentswill be completing all of the assessmentsonline. The testing window for our districtis April 11, 2016 through May 13, 2016.Parents may contact their child's specific

building to see what assessment will be givenon what specific day. Parents are also en-couraged to visit www.ohiostatetests.org  tolearn more about the state assessments. The District is starting to look at summermaintenance projects including windows, auditeria flooring, and a new phone system.Maintaining our facilities is vital to prolongthe useful life of the school buildings andequipment. Our annual audit was recentlycompleted by the Auditor of State of Ohio.We are proud of the "clean report card" ofour financial operations. We strive for finan-cial excellence and efficient spending of pub-lic funds. The high school is preparing to make a shiftin the services they offer for students withdisabilities. Next school year, students willhave the option to take three different clas-ses. The first course is called Transitions;students will learn how to do laundry, pre-

pare healthy meals from shopping on a budg-et to prep-work, cooking, and then clean-upto completing daily life skills. Job Skillscourse is designed to teach the “soft skills”of keeping employment, so many studentswith disabilities have a hard time understand-ing. The third course added to the schedule isthe Consumer Math for our Seniors, and isdesigned to teach daily life skills with moneyfrom opening an account to applying forloans and understanding their personal credit. The biggest addition to the coursework isSchool Based Employment. Students aregoing to learn hands-on job skills while com-

pleting different tasks around the district.Students are going to have the option to help

build a student ran business to provide ser-vices and products for the district and thecommunity. As always, I invite you to become an active

part of our school district and to get involvedin the lives of our young people by attendingas many of the student activities as your

schedule allows. Please feel free to visit me at my office in thePaulding Administration office, call me at419-399-4656, ext. 1510, or e-mail me [email protected] at your con-venience if you have any questions about ourschool district or anything in this communitynewsletter.William Hanak, Superintendent

Wow! Spring is here. Only one grading period

remains for the Wayne Trace Class of 2016. It has

been a great pleasure for me geng to knowmany of this year’s seniors, as they have made a

very posive impression on me these past veschool years. I believe I speak for many membersof our faculty and sta when I say that we willmiss several members of the Class of 2016.

Speaking of spring, we are now entering what isstascally the most dangerous me of year forhigh school juniors and seniors – spring break, prom, and graduaon. Please, let’s all emphasizeto our impressionable seventeen and eighteen-

year-olds the importance of making wise deci-sions during this me of the school year. Despitewhat many juniors and seniors may believe, the

parents are sll calling the shots on most issuesinvolving students. It’s everyone’s responsibility

to step up, take charge, and lead our young peo-ple down the right path and away from destruc-ve decisions. Thank you for all you do in thisarea of your child’s life.

Spring also brings upon us the next round of

the tesng season. Right or wrong, the OhioDepartment of Educaon grades much of ouracademic success on how well our students per-form on the annual state mandated tests.

Because so much emphasis is placed on these

tests at the state level, we feel it necessary to putequal emphasis on these tests with our sta andstudents. That’s why it’s vital that we all worktogether during this ever-important me of theyear. Good aendance, good aenon, and agood atude all go a long way in determiningsuccess at school. In addion, the state of Ohioconnues to raise the bar on academic achieve-ment, so we must also answer the call of duty

and expect more from our students. A failure to

do so is a failure to fulll our professional dues.As I’ve stated many mes, we must all worktogether, as success at school is a team eortbetween home and school. Everyone plays a vitalpart in the educaon of our students.

In further academic news, the Ohio Departmentof Educaon has released the annual schoolreport cards, and we are very pleased with our

results for the 2014-2015 year. In ten graded

categories, Wayne Trace earned ve A’s, three

B’s, one C, and one D. In comparison to manyNW Ohio school districts and similar districts

throughout the state of Ohio, we compare very

favorably. Congratulaons go out to our stu-dents, parents, faculty, and sta for a job welldone.

Turning our aenon to the school calendar, our district has missed 35.5 hours of me thisyear due to weather-related issues. This is sub-stanally fewer hours than we have missed eachof the past two school years, and we are headed

into the stretch run with a decent cushion at

hand. Although those of us who’ve lived in Ohio

for many years can remember some snowy days

in April, odds are that the only issue remaining

will be fog. Should we manage to avoid a series

of foggy days, the last day for students will be

Wednesday, May 25 with the graduaon ceremo-ny scheduled for May 29. Should we nd our-selves in a situaon of having to make up any

days, we will communicate this news throughHoneywell Instant Alert and through documenta-on to be sent home with students.

Time is running out to nominate a former stamember to be considered for the 2016 Wayne

Trace Sta Hall of Fame, as our HOF commieehopes to announce this year’s inductees at the

May BOE meeng. Like in past years, we will hosta formal ceremony prior to a varsity football

game to induct our new members. As always, we

would like to thank everyone who has nominateda former employee for this presgious award, asthis honor would not be possible without mem-bers of our community playing such a key role inthe process.
