In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son.
En distintas ocasiones y de muchas maneras habló Dios en el pasado a nuestros padres, por boca de los profetas.
Ahora, en estos tiempos, nos ha hablado por medio de su Hijo.
God bestows three blessings upon Moses and directs him to
extend those blessings to others: The Lord blesses you and keeps
you. The Lord lets his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord looks upon you kindly and gives you peace. Good ste-
wards realize these blessings in a unique way when they receive the
Eucharist. Exercising stewardship of the Lord’s blessings in this
sacrament begins by receiving these gifts with profound gratitude.

The encounter between God and Mo-
ses in today’s first reading is awe-
inspiring. God bestows three blessings
upon Moses and directs him to extend
those blessings to others: The Lord bles-
ses you and keeps you. The Lord lets his
face shine upon you and be gracious to
you. The Lord looks upon you kindly and
gives you peace.
Good stewards realize these blessings
are showered upon them in a unique and
special way each time they receive the
Eucharist, and exercising good ste-
wardship of the Lord’s blessings in this
sacrament begins by receiving these gifts
with profound gratitude.
From the Deacon’s desk...
(AP) Pope Francis has urged Chr is-tians to celebrate the birth of Jesus by
thinking about the plight of today’s children, lamenting that some must escape bombs or flee in migrant boats and how others are prevented from being born at all. Francis celebrated a sombre Mid-night Mass in a packed St Peter’s Ba-silica, processing to the altar behind cardinals draped in golden vestments
as the Sistine Chapel choir sang “Gloria” and the church bells rang out
across Rome. The Pope has spent much of the year denouncing the Islamic extremist violence that has driven Christians from Mid Eastern communities that date to the time of Christ. He has also demanded Europe in particular do more to welcome refugees, saying Jesus himself was a migrant who
(Materialism, concluded…)
deserved more than being born in a manger. And he has called out the wasteful ways of the wealthy In his homily, Francis urged his flock to reflect on how children today aren’t always allowed to lie peacefully in a cot, loved by their parents as Je-sus was, but rather “suffer the squalid mangers that devour dignity”. Among the indignities, he said, are “hiding underground to escape bom-bardment, on the pavements of a large city, at the bottom of a boat overladen with immigrants”. “Let us allow ourselves to be chal-lenged by the children who are not allowed to be born, by those who cry because no one satiates their hunger, by those who do have not toys in their hands, but rather weapons,” he added. The Mass late Saturday was the first major event of the Christmas sea-son, followed by Francis’s noon Urbi et Orbi (“To the city and the world”)
blessing on Christmas Day. In another appeal, Francis called for the faithful to not get caught up in the commercialisation of Christmas — “when we are concerned for gifts but cold toward those who are marginal-ised”. Materialism has “taken us hostage this Christmas,” he said. “We have to free ourselves of it!” when children and the poor die of hunger every day.
