search Academy, al-Azhar, presided by al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmad Tayyeb who declared the suspension of relations between al-Azhar and the Vatican for an unspecified period of time. This came in response to Pope Benedict’s negative comments about Islam, especially after the incidents of the Saints Church and the Middle East. However, this was denied by sources of the Vatican asserting that the council is still opened to dialogue.
