Martin Tuohy put them ahead after 39 minutes, knocking in the rebound when a Lewis Smith shot was parried, and Smith also set up the second for Dave Collis in the 56 th minute. Michael Spencer made it three on 76 minutes after great work by Tambeson Eyong, and Frannie Collin pulled one back from the spot five minutes later. LEAGUE NEWS LEAGUE NEWS

WEEKLY NEWS AND MATCH BULLETIN Season 2010/11 No: 14 : 15 th NOVEMBER, 2010

WEEKEND REVIEW By Peter Butcher – Ryman League Communications Administrator

Premier Division Margate’s Wayne Wilson gave hope to the Premier Division’s chasing pack with two goals that earned his side a 32 home win over leaders Sutton on Saturday. It was only Sutton’s second defeat and they were threatening to break clear after beating nearest rivals Kingstonian in midweek.

Simon Downer’s own goal gave Margate the lead after 20 minutes but that mishap was forgotten as Kennedy Adjei replied nine minutes later and Bradley WoodsGarness put Sutton ahead with a freekick soon after the interval. It looked as if Sutton would maintain their sixpoint lead, but Wilson had other ideas. He quickly made it 22 with a freekick of his own, then smashed home the winner from outside the box in the 73 rd minute.

So Kingstonian are once again within three points of their Surrey rivals with a game in hand after their 31 home win over Canvey. Tobi Jinadu’s header gave them an early lead and Bobby Traynor, right back in form after a slow start to the season, added two in the second half. He now has 11 league goals and 14 in all. Danny Heale managed a late reply.

Apart from Sutton, Lowestoft were the only team in the top seven who failed to win on Saturday. Danny Bloomfield’s shot against a post was the closest either side came to scoring in a 00 draw with Wealdstone, and the Trawlerboys dropped two places to fifth.

Billericay are up to third after a 21 win at Horsham, who remain in the relegation zone.

James Lawson’s header, his third goal in two games since switching from Concord, gave the Essex boys a halftime lead and, although Michael Hector replied in the 52 nd minute, it was his error which led to Anthony Robinson’s 64 th minute winner.

Cray wanted to mark their 150 th anniversary season in style and they are on target after moving up to fourth by beating bottombutone Aveley 30. Steve Lozano put them ahead after three minutes and Ross Lover wrapped it up with two goals before halftime, his second coming from the spot.

Two firsthalf goals by Les Reed were enough to keep Bury just outside the playoff places with a 21 home win over Tooting, who replied through Tyrone Sealey early in the second half and almost drew level when Rob Haworth hit a post.

When Tonbridge thrashed Hornchurch 71 last month it proved to be a watershed for both sides. It started a ninematch unbeaten run for the Angels, after a slow start to the season, and so shook up Urchins that they had been undefeated since then, a run of ten games going into Saturday’s return. Something had to give and it was Hornchurch who continued their run with a 31 revenge victory.

Croydon Athletic remain at the foot of the table after going down 41 at home to Hendon. The first half was even, with Jon Coke’s opener for the visitors answered by Dan Moody in the 41 st

minute. Then Casey Maclaren struck a vital blow by restoring Hendon’s lead moments before the break and Jamie Busby’s penalty four minutes into the second half effectively settled it. Danny Wishart made quite sure nine minutes later.

Folkestone were bemoaning their luck after going down 21 at Concord and slipping back into the bottom four. Darren Smith put them ahead midway through the first half and they had the chance to make it 20 from the spot, only for Dale Brightly to save James Everitt’s kick. That allowed Harry Elmes to make it 11 at halftime and worse was to follow for the visitors in the 65 th minute. One of their passes hit the referee and they were caught on the wrong foot as Concord pounced on the rebound and Elmes set up the winner for Jacob Erskine.

Hastings led twice but had to settle for a 22 draw at Harrow. Sam Adams opened the scoring in the 39 th minute only for Troy Hewitt to square it moments before the break. A Michael Phillips header midway through the second period gave Hastings another glimpse of victory which was snatched away nine minutes later by Dan McGonigle, also with a header. Carshalton and Maidstone slogged out an uninspiring goalless draw at Colston Avenue. Maidstone were happier with the result, which allowed them to escape from the relegation zone.

Division One North Division One North leaders Needham Market were indebted to top marksman Craig Parker as they came from behind to beat Great Wakering 32 on Saturday.

Parker ended a monthlong goal drought with a hattrick, taking his season’s tally to 19 and drawing level with Fleet’s Johnnie Dyer as the league’s top marksman in all competitions. Jack Carlile gave the inform visitors a half time lead but Parker levelled with a penalty two minutes after the restart and scored again nine minutes later. Wakering quickly made it 22 with a Bradley Walsh header before Parker notched the winner, his 12 th league goal, with seven minutes left.

Wingate & Finchley climbed five places in the table in a matter of moments. They looked set to lose at home to Harlow, which would have seen them finish the day in seventh place, but an 89 th minute equaliser by Gary Burrell was immediately followed by a David Laird penalty which clinched a dramatic 21 win and lifted them to second spot, level on points with Needham, though the Marketmen have five games in hand. Burrell’s missed penalty just before the hour had looked likely to be costly when David Cowley’s freekick gave Harlow the lead shortly afterwards.

Waltham Forest gained their first win of the season on Wednesday but they remain rooted to the bottom after crashing 51 at Romford, who regained third place. Ricki Mackin put Romford ahead on the halfhour with a long range strike and Paul Kavanagh soon added a second from the spot. Kurt Smith marked his return to the club from landlords Aveley by making it 30 five minutes after the interval and Alex Read got the fourth, snapping up the rebound when another Kavanagh penalty was saved. Forest had the consolation of breaching the league’s most miserly defence when Brian Okwere netted in the 77 th minute but Boro had the last word with a Read header.

Maldon & Tiptree moved into fourth place after coming from 20 down to beat Redbridge. The Motormen’s improved form seemed to be continuing as Matt Gillingham and Kevin McLeod scored in the game’s first quarter. Michael Deane pulled one back before half time, Jack Haverson levelled it with 14 minutes left and James Abbott won it with a 25yarder five minutes later.

A Kris Newby double enabled East Thurrock to reclaim the final playoff slot with a 21 victory at Thamesmead. He followed up after his penalty was saved to open the scoring in the 40 th minute and struck again ten minutes after the interval. Richard Avery pulled one back but Rocks held out and the hosts, second when play began, slid down to seventh place.

Potters Bar also climbed above them with a 1 0 home win over Enfield in a badtempered affair. Tom Pett got the only goal after 19 minutes but Chris Doyle was shown a second yellow card on the halfhour. Enfield could not make the most of the extra man and lost that advantage in the 60 th minute when it was Richard Morton’s turn for marching orders.

There were three penalties, all involving Ryan Doyle, in an allaction affair at Brentwood, where Heybridge drew 33. Doyle’s foul allowed Chris Bryan to put the visitors ahead with the first spotkick, but he made amends by equalising after Ryan O’Rawe brought down Steve Butterworth. Joel Barnett’s volley gave Brentwood a halftime lead, only for Swifts to respond just before the hour with two goals in three minutes, from Danny Barber and Luke Callander. Doyle got his side off the hook deep into added time with his second penalty after Taylor Hastings handled.

Cheshunt also left it until added time before beating Waltham Abbey 21. Anthony McDonald’s longrange shot gave Cheshunt an eighthminute lead but Steve Cawley 70 th minute penalty was set to provide Abbey’s ninth draw of the season until Matt Thomson got on the end of a cross from David Hicks.

Michael Toner was the day’s first scorer. He punished a defensive muddle in the 19 th minute and that was enough to give Tilbury all three points at Leyton in an early kickoff.

A single goal, scored by Jack Wignall after seven minutes, was also Sudbury’s winning margin at Ilford, who have lost nine in a row. James Baker almost got a second when he hit the bar and Rhys Darg, a prolific scorer of late, shone at the other end when he cleared off the line from Ilford’s Derek Hawtin.

A valiant show by Ware keeper Obey Murefu was almost fully rewarded when Luke Marshall gave them a 10 lead at Grays with 14 minutes left. But the defiant Murefu was finally beaten by Alex Osborne in the 83 rd minute and it finished 11.

Division One South Leatherhead striker Greg Andrews cemented his position as the season’s top marksman in Ryman League matches with a hattrick on Saturday. Andrews took his haul to 17 in 16 games as the Division One South leaders stormed to a 60 home win over Horsham YMCA, who may feel they got off lightly after their 110 home defeat against the same opposition last month.

Indeed, it looked as if YMCA would restrict their hosts to Jack MacLeod’s 24 th minute goal in the first half until Andrews struck twice in the last three minutes before the break. Kevin

Terry added another three minutes after the restart, Mark Simmons made it five and Andrews completed his treble from the spot with 20 minutes left. Another doublefigure score now looked possible but Tanners settled for six. Andrews leads by five in the race for the Golden Boot and his side are nine points clear of Metropolitan Police at the top of the table.

The Police beat Ramsgate 30 in a match delayed by almost an hour after the Rams’ coach broke down on the M25. Gary Drewett made up for lost time with an eighthminute opener and the visitors were in deeper trouble when keeper Brett Mills was sent off for handling outside his area in the 21 st minute. Defender Ryan Harker took over and did well to restrict the hosts to two more goals. Indeed, it looked as if James Field’s effort seven minutes before the break would be their lot until James Cottee wrapped it up deep into added time.

It was enough to restore the Met to second spot as Whitehawk were held to a 33 draw at Fleet and slipped back to third. Josh Jones gave them a 19 th minute lead which Johnnie Dyer wiped out with his 19 th league and cup goal shortly before the interval. Dan Read put Fleet ahead 13 minutes after the break, the first of four goals in quick succession. Paul Armstrong made it 22, Jamie McClurg restored Fleet’s advantage and Jones tied it up. Only the bar denied him his hattrick and a matchwinner.

Hawks remain just ahead of Sussex rivals Bognor, who snatched a 21 victory at Dulwich with an 89 th minute goal by Ben Johnson. Luke Nightingale had given them the lead with a deflected shot early in the second half, Francis Duku replying with a header on the hour.

The third Sussex club in the playoff places are Burgess Hill, who had a oneman advantage for almost the whole game and duly beat visiting Chipstead 30. Denver McKenzie was sent off in the second minute to give Chips real problems but they held out until the stroke of halftime, when Lloyd Cotton made the breakthrough. Steve Harper and Darren Boswell made sure in the second half.

Sittingbourne dropped below Hillians on goal difference after they had to settle for a 10

Page 4

victory at Whyteleafe. Billy Manners got the goal after only four minutes.

At the other end of the table, Corinthian Casuals stayed at the bottom after going down 30 at Worthing. Casuals’ best moment came after two minutes, when Saheed Sankoh hit the bar. Michael Huckett converted a penalty early in each half, either side of Tom Lawley’s 39 th minute effort. Tony Timms’ late dismissal took the gloss off Worthing’s performance.

YMCA joined them in the bottom two as Whitstable climbed above them with a 11 home draw against Walton & Hersham. Ian Pulman’s 12 th minute penalty gave the Oystermen the lead but Daniel Morris levelled matters ten minutes into the second half with his first goal since leaving Godalming, for whom he scored six times earlier in the season. He arrived at Walton after a brief spell with Dulwich.

Gavin Smith was the centre of attention in Godalming’s 20 victory at Chatham. He scored twice in the first half and headed against the bar in the second before his afternoon finished on a stretcher after he was caught by a tackle.

The scoring was also over by halftime at Walton Casuals, where Faversham won 21. Alex Waugh’s opener for Faversham was swiftly answered by Michael Barima before Casuals’ top scorer Danny Buckle settled it – by heading into his own net!

Harry Ottaway continued his free scoring for Merstham with a 32 nd minute opener against Eastbourne, who stole a point in added time with Greg Manton’s scrambled equaliser.

Ryman Youth League Many managers say they would rather have points on the board than games in hand, and that seems to be the principle being followed by Kingstonian in the Ryman Youth League.

They have an eightpoint lead in the Central Division, having already played ten of their 18 games while several other clubs have managed only half that number. In fairness to K’s, only Leatherhead, eight points behind with three games in hand, have dropped fewer points.

A hattrick by Matthew RoseHazel was the highlight of Kingstonian’s latest success, a 42

victory at Sutton on Wednesday which partly atoned for the first team’s 20 defeat in the same fixture 24 hours earlier. Just as in that game, it was Sutton who took a firsthalf lead through Bajrush Halili, but RoseHazel wasted no time in replying and he then put K’s ahead just after the hour. Elliott Tomkins made it 22 in the 70 th minute but K’s regained the advantage when Carl Downs netted with six minutes left and RoseHazel finished the job with his fifth goal in two games.

Leatherhead maintained their challenge with a 30 home win over Met Police. It was the 72 nd minute before Joseph Goodman broke the deadlock and the young Tanners made sure with goals in the last three minutes from Dale Malcolm and Kieran Lunn.

A double by Kwame Rennalls earned Walton & Hersham a 22 home draw with Carshalton. There were three goals in the first 15 minutes, with efforts by Bobby Bennett and Casey McCabe for the visitors sandwiching Rennalls’ first. He squared it again with a 37 th minute penalty and the second half was scoreless.

Barnet’s two teams featured in both West division matches played this week, and both were beaten. Barnet Black went down 30 at Woking, who took the lead through Lewis Martin after little more than a minute. They added two goals in quick succession midway through the second half, George Frith and Timmy Taylor the marksmen.

Barnet Amber went down 20 at Harrow, who collected their first points of the season and moved above their opponents at the foot of the table. Amari Ellington put them ahead after 35 minutes and Peter Morales nabbed the second in the 70 th minute.

There were no other league games played because of waterlogged pitches, but Dulwich advanced to the second round of the Lucas Fettes Youth Cup with a 20 home win over Whyteleafe. Dulwich, who are preparing to face Yeovil in the FA Youth Cup, took the lead in the 28 th minute through Michael Chambers and he also claimed the second just before the end.

SIDNEY RANGER Sidney Ranger, a past Secretary of Leatherhead Football Club, passed away on Friday, 5 th November.

He was a wellrespected secretary and his generosity of spirit was appreciated many in the football world, players, officials and opponents alike.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday, 24 th November at 1pm at St Georges Church, Barnett Wood Lane, Ashtead Surrey KT21 2DA. No floral tributes but donations to the Royal British legion or to the Leatherhead Swans, a charitable organisation originated by Sidney for disabled people in the Leatherhead area.

PITCH INSPECTIONS The procedures for pitch inspections are documented on page 92/93 of the current League handbook and on the Information Page on the League website.

The League Secretary, Bruce Badcock, must be informed in advance in all cases of the date and time when a pitch inspection has been requested, and then of the outcome once the inspection has been completed and a decision taken. This will enable the current status for matches that are in doubt or have been postponed to be carried on the League website.

With the continued uncertain weather approaching, home clubs must make provisional arrangements for pitch inspections in advance of match day.

In the first place the Match Referee must be contacted. If the match referee is unavailable or lives too far away to sensibly attend, then another Level 3 Contributory League referee should be used.

If for any reason this is not possible, permission must be obtained for a Level 4 official (Contributory League assistant referee) to undertake the inspection from the League Secretary, Bruce Badcock, or from the FA Appointing Officers Dave Cook or John Jones.

Where the match referee does not make the inspection, in ALL cases the inspecting official

must speak to the match referee from the pitch/ground for the decision to be confirmed.

A match postponement form must be completed at the time, signed by the inspection official, and sent (faxed) to the League Office as soon as possible. The FA (Dave Cook) do not require a copy.

CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER CUP FOURTH ROUND DRAW The draw for the Fourth Round of The Championship Manager Cup will be published on the League’s website on Friday, 19 th November.

Matches are to be played week commencing Monday, 6 th December, 2010. The quarter finals are dated for week beginning Monday, 17 th January, 2011, and the semifinals week beginning Monday, 21 st February, 2011.

The Final will be played on Wednesday, 30 th March, 20110.

MATCH FOOTBALLS All Isthmian League and Cup games must be played with a Chryso match football. Any replacement footballs used during the course of the game must also be Chryso footballs.

Clubs are required to use a white based Chryso football for matches played in the period August to November, and then March through to the end of the season. During the months of December, January and February, a yellow based football must be used.

FA TROPHY – FIRST ROUND PROPER DRAW The draw for the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy will be made on Monday, 22 nd November at Wembley Stadium. The details of the draw for matches involving Ryman Football League clubs will be published on the League website as soon as possible.

Matches are to be played on Saturday, 7 th December 2010.

CLUB GOSSIP NEEDHAM MARKET FC As well as new signings it is important to Needham Market that existing player’s are happy to commit themselves to our climb up the nonleague pyramid. That is why the fact that last year’s supporters and players “Player of the Season”, “Pip” Boyland’s signature on the contract originally outlined in the summer is another major step forward for the club.

The fact that Needham Market management team of Danny Laws and Andy Gould have been busy strengthening the squad has been given a further boost by this key figure in last season’s double winning side. Everyone at the club has seen this young man develop into an uncompromising defender that is comfortable playing anywhere across the back line. After some time away from Needham where “Pip” was making his mark at Sudbury and Leiston he returned to Needham in 2008/9 and has commanded a regular first team place playing over 70 times since then. This season he is showing that he is very comfortable playing at the higher level and has been a major reason for the great start to the season.

General Manager Andy Gould, commented “Anyone that has seen Pip play will know how committed and wholehearted he is about his football. Opposing strikers need to be at the very top of their game to get past him; with two strong feet and a competitive streak a “mile wide” his is another major signing for the club.”

The club also welcomes the extra number of supporters that follow “Pip” home and away and long may it continue!

WHITSTABLE TOWN FC Whitstable Town Football Club have announced that they have signed two players, who both went straight into the squad for Saturday’s home game:

TJ Moncur (Age23) joins the club on a temporary basis having last played for Chesterfield and looking to return to the Football League in the Winter Transfer Period; prior to this TJ played at Wycombe Wanderers (under Peter Taylor), Fulham where he went out on loan with Bradford and Arsenal whom he played for between the age of 9 and 16. He has also played for England at U1617 & 18.

Living in nearby Herne Bay, this East London boy has completed his Level 1 & 2 Coaching Badges and currently completing his Level 3/Uefa B badge under the stewardship of Kent County Football Association’s Alan Walker.

His preferred position is central midfield, but whilst playing for Peter Taylor often played attacking Right Back.

Sam Callandar (Age 20) had a previous short time at the Club whilst on loan from Ebbsfleet where he spent three years emerging from their PACE Team; Sam has also played for John Still’s Dagenham & Redbridge and more latterly Faversham Town as he currently study’s Law at Kent University in Canterbury. Sam’s preferred position is Striker or wide on the wing.

One of Mark Lane’s new signings, Lloyd Blackman, was named “Man of the Match”. after his first game for Whitstable Town along with other new additions TJ Moncur and Sam Callandar. Lane said, ”I was impressed with Lloyd’s first run out in a red shirt and he fully deserved being named man of the match for
