National Nepal marking 20th edition of Earthquake Safety Day (ESD) on January 16th, 2018: A week-long program and activities will be held on this day commemorating the Great Nepal-Bihar Earthquake of 1934.The main purpose of marking this Day has been to re-affirm national commitment to enhance Earthquake Resilience of Nepali communities and to share and review past experiences & strategize further. The Day will be marked in all 77 districts, Municipalities and many communities with various awareness and sharing events. The committee endorsed the agenda for the ESD national meeting, the overall national programme of activities, and the slogan for the event. HRRP ‘Technical Session on the ‘Repair & Retrofit with Reconstruction Updates was held on Friday, 12th January 2018, at HRRP Head office. Representatives of around 15 POs attended the sharing session, with a total of near about 35 participants. Four technical sessions Repair and Retrofit Manual and Inspection Checklist from HRRP, Structure Manual and Inspection Checklist from JICA, UNOPS and Build Change Retrofit Program, from Build Change Reconstruction Updates from MoUD CL-PIU were presented during the session, for further information on the session contact: Narayan Marasini, National Technical Coordinator, HRRP, [email protected] Value of Construction materials go up unexpectedly, leaving reconstruction progress stalled: prices of necessary construction materials like steel (Dandi) and OPCI cement, used in the construction of the houses, has increased by 9 percent and 12 percent respectively. This puts beneficiaries who have received first tranche in a crunch, as NRA has stated a deadline for first tranche recipients, to finish the construction up to the plinth level. distribution of NPRs 15,000 for house repair and NPRs 10,000 for the purchase of warm clothes, NPR 2000 for livelihood; a total of NPR 27000 for 41,626 September 2017 Flood affected households and beneficiaries as identified by the PDNA . The NRA is seeking POs who can support for the disbursement of this grant in coordination with DDRC. The Government has given a grant of NPRs. 2 lakhs to the beneficiaries of the risky landowners to buy a land in a safe place. They have a provision of NPRs. 3 lakhs for construction of private housing. Flood, fire victims to get subsidized loans to rebuild houses, run business: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has introduced working procedure to provide concessional credit to the flood victims of Saptari and fire victims of Bhojpur and Terhathum for construction of house and run businesses. 34 families, whose houses were gutted in the fire, will be able to borrow up to NPRs 2.5 million at two percent interest rates in urban areas and up to NPRs 1.5 million in other areas for the construction of residential house.

A half day orientation on grievance management for local government officials was organized by NRA Dolakha in coordination with HRRP Dolakha: The orientation program highlighted on different ‘mechanisms to address grievances related to reconstruction and how to improve them’. All newly elected local authorities from Rural Municipalities and Municipalities, including NRA Secretary Mr. Madhusudan Adhikari, attended the event. The representatives from NRA addressed all the queries that were raised on the floor during the event.

an earthquake resistant building with one story and an attic. The total cost of the house is around 5.5 lakhs. The house is completed and the owner has received all three government housing grants.

Campaign aims to collect various feedbacks and messages from all face book users regarding lessons from Gorkha Earthquake and commitment towards Build Back Better. Their official Hashtag is #SafeHomeNepal #20thESD Integrity Idol 2017, Nepal, announces its nominees for 2017 Awards, Integrity Idol is a global campaign run by citizens in search of honest government officials. World Banks, latest study on Child marriage in Nepal; shows, that; Nepal has the third highest rate of child marriage in Asia i.e., 37 percent of girls are married before 18, and 10 percent are married by 15. Nepal Demographic Health Survey NDHS 2016: Key Findings: The 2016 Nepal Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) is designed to provide data for monitoring the population and health situation in Nepal. The objective of the survey is to provide up-to-date estimates of fertility levels and preferences, marriage, sexual activity, family planning methods, breastfeeding practices, nutrition, anemia, childhood and maternal mortality, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), women’s empowerment, domestic violence, and hypertension that can be used by program managers and policymakers to evaluate and improve existing programs. The Geneva Centre for Education and Research in Humanitarian Action (CERAH), is launching an Encyclopedia for Humanitarian Action, to analyse this diversity of “humanitarian languages”. This project aims to provide humanitarian practitioners with an analysis of how key terms in humanitarian action are divergently or commonly understood, used and operationalized across the humanitarian field. It encompasses interviews, news and any developments on migration policies and bites and relevant stories extracted from the community meetings organized by frontline associates based in the above-mentioned districts. These programs are developed and played every fourth night, it is rebroadcasted every week. Milijuli Nepali, BBC Media Action, Episode 842: In this episode, the presenter Subash Karki spoke to NRA's CEO Yubaraj Bhusal as a follow up conversation of an interview conducted twice after he commenced his new role. During the interview, Mr. Bhusal talked about the deployment of engineers in every ward, settlement of the grievances filed by the people, government deadline to complete the housing up to DPC/plinth level, building houses as per the requirement which is not necessarily following one of the government housing models and providing the masonry training. The previous interviews were played to reflect on the work accomplished and commitment made by him which has not been fulfilled. The episode also includes queries and questions recorded by the earthquake affected people in the programme voice recording system.
