Students in years one and two discovered a whole new use for carrots recently when they used them to design and race their very unique carrot cars! Each student created a carrot car of their own individual design and then raced them in a challenge to find the carrot car that could travel the farthest. Competition was fierce and some of the design concepts were fantastic. There was great excitement during the races as pairs of students competed in a knockout to find the two cars that travelled the furthest down the ramp and across the cement. Zoni

Brown was the winner overall, thanks to superior design and the great balance of her edible vehicle.

Creating carrot cars was one of the fun activities included in stage ones Healthy Food Expo, a program designed to highlight theimportance of making healthy food choices and the impact of eating well on young children. Children and parents were involved in exploring what healthy food is and why eating well isimportant. Staff, students and their parents and family members gathered to share a healthy lunch as a culmination to an interesting and engaging activity that brought people from across our school community together.

92.5 Gold FM are currently running a fundraiser called Give Me 5 for Kids and Murwillumbah East students were keen to participate in helping raise money for sick children and their families in our community and to provide support for the childrens ward in our local hospital. Much to the excitement of all of the children, James Fitchett from Radio 92.5 visited our school to promote the fundraiser and collect the generous donations made by our school community. James was very impressed with the enthusiasm and generosity of our school and complimented Murwillumbah East on its commitment to supporting the local community.

ONE OF the Tweeds top emerging young talents has turned heads across the country with her performance on the Voice.

Wollumbin High School Year 12 student Nina Baumer, 18, will progress in the competition as part of Delta Goodrems team after her performance of the Etta James classic Somethings Got A Hold On Me earned her a standing ovation from the studio audience.

Nina was given the option of joining Team Delta or Team Madden after the blind audition and said she chose the Aussie songstress out of respect for the way she has handled her career.

Just getting on to the show was a pretty involved process which involved a series of auditions and trips to Brisbane to meet with the producers, said Nina.

I was a bit encouraged by the fact that they accepted my choice of song right away while others were advised to pick other ones.

Delta is an amazing artist who obviously knows the Australian music industry very well, while it is also great to have the option of a female mentor.

It was quite a relief to see those chairs turn around and surreal to have them

fi ghting over me, to be honest I couldnt really follow a lot of what they were saying as everyone was talking at once.

My goal going out there was to own the stage and just enjoy my performance and give the crowd a good time.

While the rest of Australia is getting their fi rst exposure to Ninas talents her success will come as little surprise to local friends and family.

She will be a featured performer at this years NSW Schools Spectacular - her third time being part of the event - as well as at ceremonies for the upcoming Netball World Cup while she has also graduated from the two year State talent Development Program and was selected to be part of last years State Drama Ensemble in Sydney.

I have worked so hard to achieve my dream and I just want to show the Australian public what Im capable of, she said.

I know Im still young, especially compared with some of the other competitors on the Voice, but I just want to be taken seriously and I know this is a great opportunity for me.

Ninas next appearance will be on Tuesday 21 July in the head to head battle round of the competition.
