SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATIONSaturdays from 4 – 4:40 p.m. in the Daily Chapel or by request

What is “Value Them Both?” VALUE THEM BOTH is the proposed state constitutional amendment for life supported by the Catholic Bishops of Kansas. The amendment is crucial because the Kansas Supreme Court recently created a nearly unlimited “right” to abortion, including taxpayer-funded abortion, teens seeking an abortion without parental knowledge or consent, and late-term abortions. Once passed, the VALUE THEM BOTH will help protect mothers and their unborn babies from the abortion industry. Please pray for the passage of VALUE THEM BOTH.

Remembering Fr. Kent

Blessing of the Chapel Doors and Memorial Bricks

Next weekend, at all the Masses, we'll bless the doors to the Blessed Sacrament and Reconciliation Chapels--an art project initiated by our beloved pastor Fr. Kent Hemberger. Join us as we also welcome

renowned artist Kathy Barnard. We'll also bless this year's Memorial bricks to be placed in the Marian Garden. And we'll be gifting to parishioners Journey of Trust, a special book of homilies selected by Fr. Kent before he passed. We hope you can join us!

Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll FundraiserDue to the uncertainty surrounding COVID1-9 precautions, the annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll fundraiser will be a virtual drive this year. A GoFundMe site had been setup to process any donation you decide to give. All proceeds will be split between Heartspring, our local organization

providing support and training for persons with intellectual disabilities, and Catholic Charities, who provide necessary support to distressed families. Please go to the website and donate for these worthy causes. Even a dollar will help! God bless you all. https://gf.me/u/yy4f2a

Pastoral Perspective

Dear parishioners,

Thank you for your warm welcome. After all the Masses last weekend I felt very much at home. The celebration of the Mass is very important to me, as I can see it is for you. The music was wonderful, the lectors proclaimed the Word with conviction, and the pace of the liturgy lent itself to prayer.

Some of you noticed the chalice and paten I use. When I was ordained twenty-nine years ago, my parents gave me this chalice and paten with their names engraved underneath with the inscription, “Pray for us.” Each day of my priesthood, I offer Mass for both my parishioners and my parents. My father passed away in 2011 and my mother lives in Wichita. A priest chalice is very special to him. These first weeks in the parish I am visiting our homebound parishioners, and pray for the day when we can re-enter the assisted living homes and nursing homes. Please pray for them!

As I continue to discover the treasures of Saint Vincent de Paul Church, please pray also for me. Know that I stop and offer prayers for you five times throughout the day. This is one my most important duties as your spiritual father, intercessory prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Father Ken VanHaverbeke

CONFIRMATION is happening this year! Per the Bishop's new guidelines, we are seeking 6-7th grade students and parents as candidates and volunteers. The program will be 2nd semester and designed for the middle school student. Sign-ups will be Friday, October 23 thru Sunday,

November 15th. If you are 8th-12th grade, and need to be confirmed, please sign up and we will provide you with an age appropriate opportunity as well. A schedule will be available by the parent meeting on December 6th between the Masses in the church. Classes will be in small groups and if you are more comfortable, an at home option will be available as well. Please sign up online or in the Gathering space before or after Mass.

Our Community in Grief—the Road to HealingWe are offering all St. Vincent de Paul parishioners an opportunity to help process the grief we have felt at the loss of Fr. Kent Hemberger. Fr Tom Welk, chaplain at Harry Hynes Hospice, and Rita, facilitator of the Harry Hynes Grief Support Group in our parish, will be here the evening of Wednesday, October 28th at 6:30 p.m. They will help us navigate through what we have experienced and continue to share because of Fr Kent’s passing. This event will be in the Worship Space. No reservations are needed. Social distancing and mask-wearing are required. The event will be livestreamed for those who wish to stay home.
