Week 4: Your Choices—Your Future THE POINT The choices you make today determine who you become tomorrow.

Intro Over the past few weeks, we’ve followed Charlie and Lux as they go on this big adventure to find Xander. The choices they make continually change their lives.

But we’re about to see how other people’s choices have affected them. Let’s go to this week’s episode of Hacked.

Play this week’s video message.

Close Man! What do you think he chose? How many of you think he chose “The Byte Mob?” Have them raise their hand. How many of you think he chose going home to his mom? Have them raise their hand.

What would you choose? How many of you would choose mom? Have them raise their hand. How many of you would choose the secret underground organization? Have them raise their hand.

All of Charlie’s decisions have led him to that place—that moment in the tunnel.

He then had to make a decision that will impact the rest of his life. He can choose to he richer than he ever dreamed and experience things that many others won’t get to experience—or he can choose to go back home to his mom and life the life that he knows and is comfortable with.

Here’s what we can learn from the episode today:

The choices you make today determine who you become tomorrow.

Maybe not literally. But your future will be determined by the choices you make now.

Who you choose to date, who you choose to hang out with, the things you choose to believe in, and the things you choose to invest yourself in—all those choices will shape and mold who you become.

Tell about a choice you made in your past that shaped who you are now.

So what should be the standard for making good or wise choices?

The standard should be God.

Do you believe that God truly knows what’s best for you? That He wants you to live a great and full life?

John 10:10 NIV, Jesus says: … I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full.

Some people have this view of God that He’s some sort of killjoy—that the Bible is a list of things not to do.

Like being a Christian is all about don’t do this or that.

Like, don’t go to parties, and don’t swear, and do go to church, and do complete your homework.

WRAP-UP

But something we need to realize is that God’s standards are great standards for our lives. It’s not about what we can’t or shouldn’t do. It’s about choosing what He has in store for us and knowing that it’s better than choosing our own way.

Look at what it says in Proverbs 16:9 NLT We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.

When we choose God’s standards, we’re choosing a life that’s better in the end. Better for today, better for our future.

So as you go from here, pay attention to the choices you make. Ask yourself in each choice: is this a bad choice for my life, a good choice for my life, or God’s choice for my life.

(Eyes closed/heads bowed. Elaborate on these points below. These are just the general flow.)

Some of you realized today that the choices you’re making right now aren’t setting you up well for you future. You know you want to do better at choosing what God wants for you. If that’s you, and you want to commit to choosing God’s standards, and you want to make the right choices that will be good for your future, then raise your hand right now and let me pray for you …(Have them raise their hand and pray for them.)

Others of you know that sometimes you make good choices and other times you just make bad choices. But maybe you’ve never really thought about making choices based on God’s standards for your life. You’ve just kind of done things your own way, but today you felt God nudge your heart and you know it’s time to live by God’s standards for the first time ever. If that’s you, and you want to choose to follow God and give your life over to Him, raise your hand right now, and everyone repeat this prayer after me … (Have them raise their hand and repeat prayer after you.)
