The St. Louis Rams aim for a fourth consecutive

Sunday as they host the Minnesota Vikings in t

final home game of the season. Kickoff is schedu

    for noon.

St. Louis is coming off a 15-12 victory in Buf

last week in which WR Brandon Gibson cap

    off a 100-yard day with a 13-yard touchdown ca

to put the Rams up with 48 seconds remaining

the game. The Rams were aided by a defens

performance that held one of the NFLs top rush

attacks to just 61 yards on 20 attempts.

RB Steven Jackson, who also found the end z

last week, is on the cusp of a significant milestone Sunday. He needs just

rushing yards to reach 10,000 for his career. He would be the 27th playe

NFL history to reach the mark but just the 15th to rush for 10,000 yards for

team. Jackson needs 164 yards in the final three games to reach 1,000 foreighth consecutive season.

    A PLA YERS COACH

    HES A WINNER

In January, Jeff Fisher became the

26th full-time head coach in Rams his-

tory. Fisher returned to the NFL after a

    one-year hiatus. He previously spent

16 seasons as the head coach of the

    Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.

Fisher is among the winningest head

coaches of his era. Among active

coaches, Fisher is fourth in career

    wins.

Earlier this season, Fisher passed Hall

of Famer Marv Levy for 18th on the

NFLs all-time wins list for the regular season. In Week 2, Fishers

first victory as Rams head coach allowed him to tie Levy on the all-

    time list at 143.

    Head Coach Jeff Fisher

    Throughout his career, Fisher

has been lauded for his ability

to relate to players and get the

most out of them. That keen

skill set is due in large part to

    Fishers personal experience.He enjoyed a five-year playing

    career with the Chicago Bears

as a defensive back and punt

    returner.

Fisher is one of nine current

    NFL head coaches who also

played in the league. Of those

    nine, three were teammates

at one time with the Bears:

    Fisher, Ron Rivera and Leslie

    Frazier.

Hallmarks of a Fisher-led teaminclude a stout rushing defense, the ability to possess the ball with astrong running game and poise inthe midst of adversity. In 11 of his 16seasons in Tennessee, the Titansdefense ranked in the top 10 againstthe run and ranked fourth in rushingdefense over that period (Baltimore,

Pittsburgh, San Diego). In 2003,the Titans finished first in the NFL inrushing defense for only the secondtime in franchise history (1993).

On the offensive side of the ball,Fishers teams finished in the top10 in rushing yards per game eighttimes during his Oilers/Titans tenureand from 1995-2010, only five NFLteams averaged more rushing yardsper game than Fishers clubs. Additionally, in 12 of Fishers 16 sesons, the Titans finished with an average time of possession of mthan 31 minutes per game for the season.

Fisher believes in the philosophy that a strong running game helpcontrol the clock and keeps your defense fresh. In 12 of his last 1seasons in Tennessee, the Titans finished in the top half of the Nin rushing offense, including seven top 10 finishes. Additionally, in12 of the last 15 seasons, the Titans finished with an average timof possession number of more than 31 minutes for the season.

The Rams are on the verge of carrying on those trends in Fisherfirst year. Theyre currently 16th in the NFL in rushing offense. ThRams are also 13th against the run, which is marked improvemeover the teams 31st place finish in 2011.

If I had a franchise, what coach would I hire? His name is Jeff F

er. He is so good. Hes still young enough that he can relate with players on the team. Hes one of the brightest, if not the brightest

coaches in the league. As a former player, he knows how to worka locker room. Hes just sensational. His schemes on defense are

very good and imaginative. Hes got everything. -ESPN.com SenWriter John Clayton

Jeff is one of the most competitive and intelligent players that Iv

ever coached. He was not overly gifted as a player, but he made

for it by being the fiercest competitor and one of the most intellig

people that Ive known playing this game and thats been the h

mark of his coaching career. He understands the entire game an

is a leader more than anything else. He will be in command of th

entire team. The Rams will reflect Jeff Fisher and the kind of per

son he is. It will be a great era for the Rams. - Former Rams HeCoach John Robinson

Jeff has a history of developing fundamentally sound but physi-

cally intimidating football teams. St. Louis is fortunate to have a

rushing yards to reach 10,000 for his

    When he reaches the milestone,

Jackson will be the 27th player in NFLhistory to do so. However, Jackson

will be just the 15th player to rush for

QB Sam Bradford has had a hot hand

late in games this season. Last week,

he threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to

Bradford has been among the NFLs

best quarterbacks late in games this

rating utilized by ESPN, Bradford is

the leagues third best passer in the fourth quarter. His QBR of 80.9

Rams K Greg Zuerlein has enjoyed an

impressive rookie season that has seen

him set new marks for rookie NFL kick-

In the Rams last home game, a Week

13 win over San Francisco, Zuerlein

kicked a 53-yard field goal to tie the

game as time expired in regulation. Then

    he one-upped himself with a 54-yard

game-winner in overtime. Zuerlein isnow 21-for-26 on field goals this season.

He was named NFC Special Teams

Player of the Week for the performance.

Zuerlein has now made seven field goals

from 50 yards or more. In the win over San Francisco, he broke the

franchise record for 50+ yard field goals in a season, and hes just

one off of the NFL single-season record. That mark is shared by

    Morten Andersen and Jason Hanson.

Zuerlein made his first 15 field goal attempts of his career. Among

    Zuerleins accomplishments this season:

    - With seven field goals of 50 yards or more, Zuerlein owns the NFLrookie record in the category. He broke the rookie record in just five

    games.

    - Kicked the longest field goal by a rookie in league history (60

    yds.).

    - Broke the franchise record for longest field goal (60 yds.) and

owns three of the four longest field goals in Rams history.

    - In Week 4 became the first kicker in league history to kick a

50-plus and 60 plus yard field goal in the same game.

    - He set a new franchise record for most consecutive field goals by

    a rookie (15).

    GREG THE LEG

Just like his special teams mate Greg

Zuerlein, P Johnny Hekker has had a

    strong rookie season.

On the season, Hekker is averaging 45.7

yards per punt and has a net average of

39.3 yards per attempt. If Hekker finishes

the season with those marks, both would

be fourth-best in team history for a single

    season.

    Earlier this season against Arizona,

Hekker averaged 56.9 yards per punt to

set a Rams single-game record. He also

turned in an impressive net average of 46.0 on seven punts, includ-

ing a 68-yarder. He was named NFC Special Teams Player of the

    Week for the performance.

In addition to putting his leg to good use, the Rams have benefited

from Hekkers arm. Hes completed three passes on fakes this sea-

Danny Amendola on a fake punt.

    category this season.

    He posted a career-high 11 receptions

in the teams Week 13 win over San

100-yard game of his career, a per-

    formance that included an acrobatic

    37-yard touchdown catch. Givens

totaled five catches for 115 yards in

The former second-overall pick is looking to build on what was ahuge season in 2011. Long finished the year with 13.0 sacks, whichranked seventh in the NFL.

With his 13th sack, Long equaled his Hall of Fame fathers careerhigh for sacks in a season. Howie Long had 13 sacks for the Raidersin 1983.

The Rams rookie hails from a hotbed of NFL talent. When it comto producing NFL players, few places in the country can rival Muck.

Jenkins is the latest in a long line of NFL players who hail from small South Florida city of Pahokee. The Rams selected Jenkins the 39th pick in Aprils draft.

Jenkins was an All-SEC performer at Florida, where he spent thseasons before finishing his career at North Alabama last seaso

When free agency began in earlyMarch, the Rams quickly moved toland their top target. That man wasCB Cortland Finnegan, and youd behard pressed to find an offseasonacquisition across the NFL who hashad as big an impact as Finnegan.

Finnegan recorded an interceptionin each of his first three games withSt. Louis. In Week 1, he returned an

interception 31 yards for a touchdown. In Week 2, his pick set up a late firsthalf field goal.

Finnegan played for Rams HeadCoach Jeff Fisher for five seasons inTennessee, where the Samford product developed a reputation as afeisty, aggressive playmaker.

In addition to providing a boost with his play, Finnegans leadershiphas been key in the Rams locker room. Hes willingly accepted amentor role in a secondary that includes rookies Janoris Jenkins,Trumaine Johnson and Rodney McLeod.

Finnegan has been a model of consistency throughout his career.Hes started 52 consecutive games, the second-longest active streakamong NFL cornerbacks.

The Rams used the next-to-last pick in

Aprils draft to select Abilene Christian

RB Daryl Richardson, and the earlyreturns on that investment have been

    huge.

Richardson has rushed for 461 yards

on just 88 carries. His 5.2 yards per

carry average is fourth-best among NFL

running backs this season, trailing only

C.J. Spiller, Adrian Peterson and Bryce

Brown, and Richardson is sixth over-

all in yards per run. Washington QB

Robert Griffin, III and Carolina QB Cam

Newton are also ahead of Richardson.

Paired with Steven Jackson, Richardsons explosiveness has given

the Rams a nice 1-2 punch at the running back position. Of

Richardsons 88 carries this season, 11 have gone for 10 yards or

more, and two have gone for 40 yards or more.

Early December can sometimes bring therookie wall that sees some players startto slow down late in their first season. Itsbeen the opposite for Rams first-round pickMichael Brockers.

Last week in Buffalo, Brockers recorded1.5 sacks, his second multi-sack game thisseason. Brockers now has 4.0 sacks thisseason.

As a team, the Rams held Buffalos vaunt-ed rushing attack to just 61 yards, andBrockers played a big part in that. Heracked up six tackles, including one for loss. In addition to his sacks,he recorded two QB pressures and two QB hits.

Two weeks ago, Brockers posted a career-high 11 tackles in theteams win over San Francisco. RB Frank Gore gained just 58 yardson 23 carries, thanks in part to Brockers either shedding blockers oreating space.

Brockers, the teams first round pick in Aprils draft, missed the firstthree games after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason finale. He has since totaled 48 tackles and 12 QB pressures.

Robert Quinn and 7.5 from DE

Chris Long, the Rams have had

    season.

The Rams sacked Bills QB Ryan

    Fitzpatrick five times last week

to give St. Louis 39 sacks as a

team, tied for second-most in theNFL this season.

While Quinn and Long lead the

way, the Rams have pressured the quarterback from every leve

their defense. In total, 14 different Rams have recorded at least

sacks this season. Only ONE teams have more than 14 players

    SACK ATTACK

Three weeks ago, the Rams had their

starting offensive line back to full force for

the first time since their season opener,

and its no coincidence that St. Louis has

in turn won three consecutive games.

C Scott Wells, who had missed nine

games after breaking his foot in the open-

er, returned to the lineup vs. Arizona. Rob

Turner opened the season as the teams

starting left guard but moved to center

when Wells was injured. With Wells back,

Turner returned to guard, which allowed

the Rams to improve at two positions with one players return.

St. Louis rushed for 179 yards as a team in their win at Arizona. In

the last two weeks, the Rams have allowed just three sacks in 81

    drop backs.

The Rams have been among the NFLsbest this season when it comes to prevent-ing big plays.

On the season, St. Louis has allowedjust 29 pass plays of 20 yards or more, tied for third lowest total in the NFL. Only

Pittsburgh (23) and San Francisco (27)have been better. Seattle has also allowed29.

The Rams pass defense fueled theteams win in Arizona three weeks agoas St. Louis intercepted four passes andreturned two of them for touchdowns. Last week, Jo-Lonn Dunbarsinterception sealed the teams win.

Led by Cortland Finnegan (3) and Janoris Jenkins (3), eight differ-ent players have recorded at least one interception for the Ramsthis season.

    According to StatsPass.com, the Rams

defense has created 97 negative plays this

season, which is tied for fourth in the NFL.

St. Louis has stopped its opponent for

negative gains on 57 run plays, and the

    team has 39 sacks.

The Rams ability to catch Bills running

backs in the backfield played heavily intothe teams success last week. In grading

the defensive film, Rams coaches cred-

ited the team with seven tackles for loss,

including two by S Quintin Mikell. On the season, Jo-Lonn Dunba

leads the team with 15 tackles for loss.

defeat the San Francisco 49ers. Zuerlein

was also honored after kicking four field

goals in a Week 4 win over Seattle, includ-

    ing a team-record 60-yard field goal.

P Johnny Hekker was recognized after Week 5 when he average

56.9 yards per punt to set a Rams single-game record.
