Measles Mass immunization campaign in South, Central and Somaliland
• A nationwide measles campaign conducted starting from 11th March in Accessible and Partially accessible districts of South,
Central and Somaliland. The campaign continued for 5 days. WHO, UNICEF, national and local health authorities aim to
reach more than 4.6 million children aged from six months to 10 years during the overall campaign.
Over 4000 vaccination teams and 1100 supervisors are deployed in southern states and 1345 teams and
Around 300 supervisors deployed in Somaliland.
• Measles campaign inaugurated by Federal minister of health in Mogadishu and president of Somaliland in Hargeisa.
Campaign targeting 2.6 million children in the southern states, along with 1.1 million children in Somaliland. The
vaccinations was provided at fixed centers as well as temporary vaccination sites.
• Vitamin A also provided for the under 5 years children
• Admin data is being processed by regions and Zones and coverage will be shared soon.
• Post campaign house to house assessment will be conducted using standard checklist by independent monitors in all regions.
• Puntland already implemented the campaign in January when more than 933,000 children were vaccinated.

- 8 new AFP cases were reported last week making the total AFP cases reported in 2018 to 66 from 19 regions as compared to 80 AFP cases from 19 regions as the same time point in 2017.
- Sahil region from Somaliland is silent and has not reported for 8 consecutive weeks. The regional team has requested to collect community samples from health children in health facilities.

• Final hand over of three regional cold chain stores in Central South to new partners (NGOs)
completed in Kisamyo, Dusharmreb and Baidoa. This hand over was from Swisso Kalmo to
HIRDA ( Lower Juba & Galgadud) and INTERSOS (Bay) respectively
• Updated the IPV vaccine management response plan and shared with WHO and CDC
• Completed the Measles vaccination campaign in Central South with no major logistical
problems reported.
