WBF President: Cheatersface harsh punishment

Ever since the bridge world was rocked three months ago by Boye Brogeland’s accusation that two of his teammates in winning efforts had been cheating, World Bridge Federation President Gianarrigo Rona has been in the vortex of the scandal and all that followed.

The fallout has included new attention to bridge in the media, especially in Italy, where Rona lives. In Denver, two magazines – Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone – had reporters working on articles about bridge. Rona met with a Rolling Stone reporter on Tuesday.

There have been questions about the WBF’s commitment to ridding the game of cheaters, but Rona says the issue was on his agenda from the moment he became WBF president in late 2010. One of his first acts as president, he says, was to institute a disciplinary code and a method of adjudicating cases. He has also been working to amend WBF regulations to enhance the organization’s power to deal with any other bridge entity – including national bridge organizations – that fails to take action where it’s

warranted. “We need the support of the federations,” Rona says. “If they don’t act against cheaters, we can act against them.”

As part of the WBF’s plan to address the issue of cheating, Rona travelled to Denver to meet with ACBL officials and members of a committee of high-level players whose job it is to screen reports of unethical behavior with an eye to prosecuting those considered serious enough to warrant suspension.

Diamonds not necessarily a girl’s best friend

By Adam WildavskyThis is my favorite deal from the Nail Life

Master Pairs: Board 11 from the first qualifying session. My partner, Michael Polowan, and I were playing against Cristal Nell and Andre Asbury.

Dlr: South ♠ Q J 7 4 2 Vul: None ♥ K Q J 2 ♦ 6 3 ♣ J 9 ♠ A ♠ K 10 8 6 3 ♥ 9 ♥ 10 8 7 6 5 4 ♦ K 9 8 5 4 ♦ Q ♣ A K 10 5 4 3 ♣ 8 ♠ 9 5 ♥ A 3 ♦ A J 10 7 2 ♣ Q 7 6 2 West North East South Wildavsky Asbury Polowan Nell 1♦ 2♣ Dbl 2♥ Pass 3♣ All Pass

Andre led the ♦6 to the queen and ace. Cristal switched to a trump, and I won the ♣A and ♣K, cashed the ♠A and exited with my heart. Andre won the ♥J and exited with a low heart, which I ruffed. Now I put Cristal in with the ♦9. When she won the 10, she had no good counter. She tried the ♦2, but I won the 5 and now played a trump. After cashing her two club tricks Cristal had to either lead from her ♦J 7 into my ♦K 8 or give dummy a spade trick.

Minus 50 was worth 62% of the matchpoints. Minus 100 would have scored 45%.

Accurate readerOn this deal from a regional knockout, Omer

Ekinci did a good job of reading the cards to land a vulnerable game and earn 12 IMPs for his team.

Dlr: West ♠ A Q 5 Vul: Both ♥ Q 9 6 3 ♦ J 10 6 ♣ A K 8 ♠ 10 3 ♠ 9 8 7 6 ♥ A J 8 7 5 ♥ K 10 4 2 ♦ A Q 8 4 2 ♦ K 9 ♣ 10 ♣ 7 4 2 ♠ K J 4 2 ♥ — ♦ 7 5 3 ♣ Q J 9 6 5 3 West North East South 1♥ 1NT 2♥ 3♣ 3♦ Pass 3♥ 3♠ Pass 3NT Pass 5♣ All Pass

West started with the ♥A, ruffed by Ekinci. He played a club at trick two, and when West followed with the 10, Ekinci accurately read it as a singleton (he did have clues from the bidding). Needing a diamond ruff in dummy, Ekinci stopped drawing trumps, instead playing four rounds of spades, discarding a diamond from dummy on the ♠K. When Ekinci played a diamond from hand, West contributed the queen, which was overtaken by East to play a trump. Ekinci won in dummy and played the ♦J. He had figured West for at least the ♦A considering the opening lead.

West won the trick with the ♦A but had no trump to play. He got out with a heart, but Ekinci ruffed, took a diamond ruff and got back to hand to draw trumps and claim plus 600.

At the other table, South ruffed the heart lead but erred by drawing two rounds of trumps. When he played on diamonds, East overtook the ♦Q with the king and played a third round of trumps. Declarer ended up losing three diamond tricks.

JUST FOR NEW PLAYERSHow things work

By Brent Manley

At a bridge club, the director called to the table by a player who complained that an opponent had opened 1♣ holding

♠ — ♥A K J 7 5 4 3 ♦Q 5 4 ♣A Q 5The defenders

had gone wrong in the play of the final contract of 4♥. Asked about the bidding, the player said, “Our instructor said we should have five cards in a major to open and if we didn’t we should open our better minor.”

A lot of players new to duplicate have difficulty with all the new “rules” they must follow. It can be daunting at times, so it’s best to be aware of the protocols before you sit down to play. Bear in mind that the rules are meant to assure a level playing field and a pleasant experience for all competitors.

A lot of them have to do with the mechanics of the play.

For starters, after you take the cards out of the board, it’s best to count them. If, during the play, you find that one hand has too many cards or too few and you’re the one with 12 cards, it could cost you. You will, of course, call the director. The card will be found and returned to your hand, but that’s not the end of it.

Say you, a defender, were dealt four clubs but you were defending with only three. When the missing card is found, it will be a club. When the director reviews the situation, he might find that declarer played four rounds of clubs and you discarded because you had only three. Now that you have the club back in your hand, you are guilty of a revoke. That could cost you a trick. It might be

the difference between defeating a contract and letting it make.

In most organized bridge settings these days, bidding boxes are the norm. It may take you a session or two to get used to them, but you will find the system vastly superior to spoken bidding. For one thing, the room is quieter and you can review the bidding simply by looking at the bidding cards on the table.

In using the bidding box, it will be in your best interest to make up your mind about your bid before reaching into the bidding box. Picking one bid, changing your mind then picking another gives partner information in a way that is not kosher, so to speak.

It’s a different matter, however, if you reach into the box, select and bid and put it down on the table, only to find it is not the bid you intended. That’s considered a mechanical error and in most cases you will be allowed to pick up the erroneous bid, put it back and select the one you thought you had chosen.

Picking a bid and changing your mind about it is not permitted by the rules.

When the auction is concluded, someone has to make an opening lead. I recommend that you get into the habit of making your opening lead face down. That way, if it’s not actually your lead, no harm has been done. If you lead out of turn with your card face up, the director’s adjudication of the irregularity could cost you.

Even when I’m “sure” I’m the opening leader, I ask. If it turns out I’m wrong about whose turn it is, I save a director call by asking.

On the topic of irregularities – bids or leads out of turn, insufficient bids, etc. – I have one strong piece of advice for you: Call the director. It is a big mistake to make your own ruling at the table. You will occasionally encounter a self-styled “expert” on the laws. It is a major mistake to let that person make a “ruling” at the table. No matter how insignificant

the irregularity may seem – call the director.

Take all your chances at bridge - 6By Eddie Kantar

East opens 1♠ vulnerable in third seat. You try 2♥. West passes, partner raises to 3♥ and East persists with 4♦. You bid 4♥ and everyone passes. West leads the ♠Q. East encourages, but West cannot dig up another spade and shifts to the ♦2. East plays the jack and you win the ace. At trick three, you play the ♥A and East obliges with the queen. By now you should have enough information to see your way through to 10 tricks. Plan the play.

SolutionIt looks for the world as if you have four

losers: three spades and a heart. Yet, if you count your tricks, you could easily have 10: three hearts, the ♦A, two diamond ruffs, and four clubs. By the

way, if you count losers (four) and winners (10) and the total doesn’t come to 13, you are supposed to count your cards! Alas, this deal is the exception to even that rule.

You do have a count in this case. West is known

to have one spade and four hearts. He appears to have four diamonds given the bidding and the lead, so West has four clubs.

Play three rounds of hearts ending in dummy and ruff a diamond. Now back to dummy with a club and ruff dummy’s last diamond with your last trump. Now take three more club tricks: tricks eight, nine and 10 – piece of cake. You have taken 10 tricks. They took the first trick, still have the ♠A and ♠K of spades in one hand and a winning heart in the other for three more tricks! Alas, those three tricks will crash on top of each other on the last two tricks. West will be forced to ruff one of his partner’s spade winners!

Most books emphasize counting losers at suit contracts and winners at notrump, but when ruffing in the long-trump hand is involved, counting tricks may be even more helpful. Proper handlingBy Barry Rigal

Russ Samuel gave me this interesting deal from the first final session of the Mitchell Open Board-a-Match teams.

Dlr: East ♠ 8 6 Vul: N-S ♥ K 10 7 ♦ 10 6 5 4 ♣ K J 9 4 ♠ A 10 9 7 5 ♠ K Q J 4 3 2 ♥ 9 3 ♥ A J 6 5 ♦ Q J 9 ♦ 2 ♣ 8 5 3 ♣ 10 2 ♠ — ♥ Q 8 4 2 ♦ A K 8 7 3 ♣ A Q 7 6 West North East South 1♠ Dbl 4♠ Pass Pass Dbl Pass 4NT Pass 5♦ Dbl All Pass

You reach 5♦ doubled and ruff away the ♠A at trick one. How should you proceed?

It seems to me the best line is to cash the top diamonds, and when East discards he must surely be the favorite to hold the rest of the high cards. Cross to the ♣K to ruff a spade, then run the clubs. West cannot benefit by ruffing in, so he discards a spade. You reach this position:

♠ — ♥ K 10 7 ♦ 10 6 ♣ — ♠ 10 9 ♠ K Q ♥ 9 3 ♥ A J 6 ♦ Q ♦ — ♣ — ♣ — ♠ — ♥ Q 8 4 2 ♦ 8 ♣ —It doesn’t work for you to throw West in with

a trump. He will exit with a spade, knocking out dummy’s last trump. The opponents will then get a heart and a spade for one down. Instead, lead a heart to dummy’s king. East must win and give you a ruff-sluff (you ruff in hand and discard a heart from dummy) or lead a heart for you to run around to the 10.

punishment for a second conviction. As of Jan. 1, there will be an email address on

the WBF website (worldbridge.org) for interested parties to report possible violations. Accusers will have to provide details, but only the high-level players committee will see such reports. The identities of those who make reports will remain confidential.

Some reports and complaints may be discarded, Rona said, but those considered serious or potentially serious will be kept and maintained in archives on the players whose ethics have been questioned.

Additionally, Rona said, security at tournaments will be increased in much the same way as the ACBL does with video recording of high-level events.

At the 2016 World Bridge Games in Wroclaw, Poland, next year, all tables in the knockout phases of the teams events will have cameras and other methods of monitoring play. For the next Bermuda Bowl, in 2017, all tables in all stages of competition will have such monitoring.

It’s a big job but necessary to preserve the integrity of the game, Rona said. “Bridge is a game of rules,” he said. “If you don’t follow the rules, you’re out.”

Rona says a lot of what has been circulated about the game in the wake of the scandal has been little more than gossip. He is committed to assuring a fair process – one that gives the accused the chance to defend themselves.

Ever the bridge promoter, Rona has taken the opportunity while answering questions about cheating to extol the virtues of the game, especially for young people. “I hope the reporters will write about bridge as it really is,” he says.

Young players, he notes, “have friendship, learn communication and social skills and working with others, and they learn how to make decisions quickly.” That, he says, is why unethical play is such a scourge. “If you cheat,” he says, “all these things are trash. You cannot enjoy the game if you cheat.”

Although the main purpose of Rona’s trip to Denver was to talk about the fight against cheaters, he also took time to promote the next world championship – the World Bridge Games in Wroclaw, Poland, next September. There will be four categories of teams – open, women’s, seniors and mixed. All players must be from the same national bridge organization (e.g., United States Bridge Federation or Canadian Bridge Federation), but each may send a team for each of the categories. The schedule will include pairs games in each of the four divisions with no limit on the number of pairs from each NBO.

Wroclaw is easy to get to from major cities in Germany or from Warsaw.

Rona says he is also hoping for a good turnout from various nations for the World Youth Teams Championships in Salsomaggiore, Italy, Aug. 3-13 next year.

For information about both tournaments, visit worldbridge.org.

Beth Palmer, Chevy Chase MD – 27 NABC wins and three world titles, including two Venice Cup gold medals and one silver.

Judi Radin, New York City – 16 North American championships, four gold medals in world championships – three in women’s teams and one in women’s pairs – and four silver medals.

Howard Weinstein, Omaha NE – Nine NABC wins plus a silver medal in the 2007 Bermuda Bowl and bronze medals in WBF teams competition in 1998 and 2000.

Eddie Wold, Houston TX – 15 NABC wins and gold medals in the 2013 d’Orsi Senior Bowl and the 2001 World Transnational Open Teams.

Players must be 60 years old to be nominated. Ballots will go out early next year to about 375

electors. Voting will end in February. Induction for those elected will take place at the 2016 Summer NABC in Washington DC.

Tied round equals marital bliss

By Barry RigalWhen the teams involving my wife (Sue Picus)

and I crossed swords in the second qualifying session of the Mitchell Board-a-Match Teams, both sides emerged unbloodied, with two halved boards. This was the more interesting.

Dlr: East ♠ A K 10 5 2 Vul: Both ♥ K 10 3 ♦ 8 6 ♣ A J 10 ♠ Q 9 3 ♠ J 7 6 4 ♥ A ♥ Q 9 8 2 ♦ A J 9 3 2 ♦ 10 7 4 ♣ K 8 7 5 ♣ 4 2 ♠ 8 ♥ J 7 6 5 4 ♦ K Q 5 ♣ Q 9 6 3 West North East South Pass Pass 1♦ 1♠ Pass 1NT All Pass

North’s caution in the auction was fully justified. Dan Gerstman led a low diamond to the 10 and king. Declarer now led a heart up and Gerstman took his ace and found the nice shift to the ♠9. Declarer won (as the cards lie, ducking might have saved the day) and played the ♥K, then the ♣A, ♣J, ducked by Gerstman. When declarer cashed the ♠A, Gerstman could unblock the queen and when in with a club he could lead a spade to me to cash out for down one. “That will teach them to overbid,” we said.

P.S. At the other table, North raised to 2NT for South to go one down.

Diabolical defenseBy Barry Rigal

David Caprera passed on this gem from the second qualifying session of the Mitchell Open Board-a-Match Teams. North-South were playing standard, five-card majors.

Dlr: West ♠ J 10 9 Vul: E-W ♥ Q 6 2 ♦ A 10 9 3 ♣ K Q 7 ♠ 8 6 ♠ A 5 4 ♥ A 10 5 3 ♥ K J 8 4 ♦ J 4 ♦ K Q 7 2 ♣ A 9 8 5 3 ♣ 10 6 ♠ K Q 7 3 2 ♥ 9 7 ♦ 8 6 5 ♣ J 4 2 West North East South Pass 1♣ Dbl 1♥ (1) 2♥ Dbl (2) 3♥ All Pass

(1) Spades(2) Three-card spade supportCaprera, West, received the lead of the ♠J from

Robert Todd. When Caprera ducked, Spencer Jones overtook with the ♠Q to shift to the ♣4. North won the ♣K and continued with the ♣Q, South following with the 2.

Caprera then played the ♥A, heart to the jack and cashed the trump king. Caprera figured North for 4-3-3-3 shape, with four clubs. He played a diamond to the jack and North’s ace, which was followed by the ♣7. At this point, Caprera had to compare the chances that North had opened 1♣ with 3=3=4=3 shape and that South had simulated a doubleton club with the J-4-2 against North’s not having led a club to trick one from ♣K Q J 7.

He got it wrong, letting the ♣7 run. Jones scored the ♣J to hold Caprera to plus 140 for a winning board.

Providing units/districts with the tools needed for success is a top priority of the ACBL. We are excited to announce the launch of Marketing Solutions, powered by Pianola. This new service will put the power of email marketing at the fi ngertips of units anddistricts while removing the ACBL as the middle-man to members

With the new Marketing Solutions, units and districts will be able to better market regional and sectional tournaments by targeting messages to sub-groups like non-Life Masters and lapsed members. The service can also be used to send newsletters and execute e-marketing campaigns.

Ready to start building a better relationship with your members? It’s as easy as 1–2–3.

1 Set up your account. In January 2016, the ACBL Marketing Department will send unit/district presidents and directors an email invitation to set up their account. For more than one person to have access to to the service, contact the [email protected] for assistance.

2 Build your database. The ACBL will populate each Marketing Solutions database with the member profiles of the unit or district and the surrounding units/districts. Parameters for the database will be established in a provided user guide.

3 Engage with your membership. Select from save the date, regional, sectional, non-Life Master and other templates. Use smart groups to target your message and press send. Questions? Visit the Pianola booth in the Plaza Building, Concourse Level, through Wednesday, or email [email protected]

Spotlight on De heer Bertens

The following two deals feature Huub Bertens in action on the team that won the Mitchell Open Board-a-Match Teams. The first board was reported by Bob Sanner. Bertens, who moved from the Netherlands to Bend OR a couple of years ago, was playing with Daniel Korbel.

Dlr: South ♠ A 9 8 7 5 3 Vul: N-S ♥ 10 8 5 ♦ J 7 2 ♣ 8 ♠ Q J 10 4 ♠ 2 ♥ K 9 3 ♥ A 6 4 2 ♦ 9 8 3 ♦ Q 10 6 4 ♣ Q 5 4 ♣ J 10 9 6 ♠ K 6 ♥ Q J 7 ♦ A K 5 ♣ A K 7 3 2 West North East South 2NT Pass 3♥ Pass 3♠ Pass 3NT Pass 4♠ All Pass

The killing heart lead was not found at either table. Against Bertens, West started with the ♦9, which ran to declarer’s ace.

It looks tempting to play two rounds of spades then the top clubs, pitching a diamond loser. Even if the fifth club sets up, you then get only one heart discard, so you lose two tricks in that suit. On the normal 3-2 spade split, you lose one trump and two hearts.

Bertens adopted a different line of play, setting out to try to discard two hearts from dummy. At trick two, he cashed the ♣A and ruffed a club, then cashed the ♠A and played a spade to his king. He then played the ♣K, pitching a heart from dummy, and ruffed a club, setting up the long club in his hand.

It would have done West no good to ruff in front of dummy on the fourth round of clubs. Bertens would have discarded a loser from dummy. After the second club ruff, Bertens played a diamond to his king and played the good ♣7, West again discarding. Bertens pitched a diamond from dummy and played his last diamond. West had the ♠Q J, dummy the ♠9 8. West could ruff and pull one trump from dummy, but the ♠9 would be declarer’s 10th trick. After ruffing the diamond, Bertens conceded the last three tricks.

At the other table, declarer did not find the winning line of play and finished one down.

On this deal from the second final, Bertens made a good decision in the bidding for another win.

Dlr: East ♠ Q 10 8 4 3 Vul: N-S ♥ 9 7 5 ♦ A Q 10 ♣ J 10 ♠ 9 6 ♠ A ♥ A J 10 6 2 ♥ K Q 8 4 ♦ 9 6 5 ♦ 2 ♣ A 9 6 ♣ K 8 7 5 4 3 2 ♠ K J 7 5 2 ♥ 3 ♦ K J 8 7 4 3 ♣ Q West North East South Korbel Bertens 1♣ 1♦ 1♥ 1♠ 3♥ 3♠ 4♥ 4♠ 5♣ 5♠ 6♥ Pass Pass 6♠ Pass Pass Dbl All Pass

You don’t see many saves at the six level at unfavorable vulnerability. Credit Bertens with impeccable timing. There was, of course, also the consideration that he didn’t have to play it. Korbel held up his end by going down only two for minus 500 when the opponents were cold for at least 12 tricks in hearts. At the other table, Boye Brogeland

and Espen Lindqvist missed the slam, but all was well anyway. West North East South Brogeland Lindqvist 1♣ 1♠ 2♦ (1) 3♥ (2) 3♠ Pass 4♣ 4♠ 5♥ Pass Pass Dbl All Pass

(1) Hearts(2) Showing a spade fit.North-South could have won the board by

passing out 5♥ and leading a diamond. On any other lead, East-West would have been plus 510 for a win. Once North doubled, the board was lost even if South found the diamond lead. When South led a spade, Lindqvist quickly wrapped up his doubled contract with two overtricks for plus 850.

In order to keep the bridge public informed of appeal results in a timely fashion, the NABC Daily Bulletin staff publishes write-ups. Every effort is made to ensure that these reports are accurate and complete. Before they are published in the NABC Appeals Casebook, however, revisions may be made.

1440.Director ruling: 7♣ by North making seven,

North–South plus 1440. Committee ruling: 7♣ by North making seven,

North–South plus 1440.The Facts: East called for the director at the end of the

auction. East stated that the 6♣ bid was made in an irregular tempo. When asked for a time frame, East initially refused to state exactly how long the bid had taken; but eventually said he guessed it took 10 seconds. West said that it was 6–7 seconds. Both North and South denied there had been a hesitation, noting that the 2♣ opening bid took longer than the 6♣ bid.

Director’s Ruling:Based on the information made available by the

players, the director determined there had been a 6–7 second hesitation; it was, however, determined not to be a break-in-tempo (BIT) given earlier bids and the level of the auction. Accordingly, the table result was allowed to stand, 7♣ by North, making seven, North–South plus 1440.

The Appeal:East–West appealed the ruling. West attended the

hearing. West stated that the hesitation prior to the 6♣ bid stood out starkly from the rest of the auction not because it was so slow, maybe 5–6 seconds, but because the rest of the auction was so fast. There was not the slightest pause before any of the other bids.

The Decision:With the new rules requiring the Appeals

Committee (AC) to start from the director’s ruling rather than from scratch, there would need to be clear evidence that there was a BIT in order to overturn the ruling in this case.

South’s hand suggests he had no problem. With North’s hand, it seems reasonably normal to bid 7♣. In slam auctions, it’s pretty normal to pause for a few seconds before making a call that can be passed. All in all, the AC did not see compelling evidence to overturn the ruling. Because there appears to have been some change in tempo, this appeal is found to have substantial merit. The Director’s ruling is upheld, 7♣ by North making seven, North–South plus 1440.

North’s jump to 4♥ after transferring was a slam invitation. With a lesser hand, North would have bid 4♦, known as a Texas transfer.

West started with a low club, which ran to South’s 9. Put yourself in Itabashi’s place and plan the play. You can be confident of 12 tricks, but you’re playing pairs, so the overtrick could be important. How will you proceed?

SolutionItabashi took the opening lead in hand and

considered the play of the trump suit. With nine trumps between the two hands, many players would apply the “eight ever, nine never” adage and simply cash the two high trumps. Itabashi did a little bit of detective work to see if he might do better than following an maxim.

At trick two, he played a diamond to dummy’s king, then returned to hand with the ♠A to cash the ♦A. When West followed with the ♦Q, Itabashi stopped to consider the implications. West’s play might be a falsecard from the Q-J-x, but Itabashi recalled the opening lead, almost certainly from the ♣Q. If West started with the ♦Q J x, he surely would have led a diamond honor instead of from queen to three or four clubs.

If West had a doubleton ♦Q, that meant East had six of them, leaving less room in his hand for hearts. Backing his judgment, Itabashi cashed the ♥A and played a heart to dummy’s jack. When East showed out, Itabashi was able to claim 13 tricks for 37.5 matchpoints out of 38. The spirit of the old west is alive in Cheyenne WY, the capital city of the Cowboy State.

Cheyenne ACBL Unit 421, a small unit of about 60 members, promotes the friendliness of their game and their city to all visitors.

Located at the intersection of interstates 80 and 25, Cheyenne is a transportation hub. It was founded by the Union Pacific railroad in 1867 as a major stop along the transcontinental railway. The city boasts a beautifully restored Union Pacific depot, 1880s cattlemen’s mansions and museums and is the home of F.E. Warren Air Force base, one of three strategic missile bases in the United States.

Cheyenne is also the home of the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, Cheyenne Frontier Days, which is held for 10 days each July. Popular stops on a visit to Cheyenne include the Frontier Days Old West Museum, the Wyoming State Museum, Union Pacific Depot and Big Boy Steam Engine, and both Curt Gowdy State Park and the Vedawoo recreation area west of Cheyenne in the Medicine Bow National Forest. The State Capitol will begin a three-year long

refurbishing next spring. Cheyenne Bridge Club’s first night of ACBL-

sanctioned bridge was played at the in January 1954, and fielded 14 tables. As was the custom, women wore evening dresses and the men donned suit and tie when they came to play at the aptly named Frontier Hotel.

In March 1972, 56 players showed up at the unit election party at the Little America resort as a snow storm developed. No one could get home due to the deep snow and fierce wind. All travel was suspended and few hotel rooms were available. So, what would any self-respecting Wyoming bridge player do? Deal the next hand! When too tired to shuffle, the stranded players rolled up in blankets provided by the hotel staff and slept on the floor.

The unit has been hosting the Indian Paintbrush Sectional since 1956. It is now an annual September event and is well attended by players throughout the region. The three-day tournament is known for amazing homemade snacks, fun door prizes and a fried chicken buffet dinner between Swiss sessions

on Sunday. The most exciting news this fall for this unit is

the revival of Easybridge! There are more than 50 active participants now in the 11th week of classes and weekend workshops. So far, 20 of the new players have joined the unit. Plans are now underway for continuing Easybridge! classes through the spring of 2016.

Cheyenne Unit 421 invites everyone to the 2016 Indian Paintbrush Sectional, which will be held September 16–18 at Laramie County Community College. Early fall is a beautiful time to visit Cheyenne! Local games are held at the Cheyenne VFW Post 1881 on Monday evenings and Thursday afternoons and at the downtown senior citizens activity center on Tuesday evenings and Friday afternoons.
