A habitat is where an animal naturally lives. Some animals like hot desert, some like humid rainforest, some like the ocean and some like cold habitats...

Rainforest Habitat

Rainforests are humid which means they are hot but they get lots of rain. Tell your grown up - Which animals like to live in the rainforest and why?

Desert Habitat

Deserts are very hot and dry and lots of sand. They have cacti which have little prickles that don't have much water. Can you think of any animals that might live in the desert and why?

Polar Habitat

Polar habitats are very cold. They are freezing! They have lots of ice and snow. Can you think of any animals that might live in the polar habitat and why?

Examples:

Seals, polar bears and penguins. They have thick layers of flubber, which is a layer of fat which keeps them warm. They also have thick warm fur and some are white for camouflage. Penguins stand close together to share body heat.

Ocean Habitat

Ocean habitats are salt water and there are lots of different plants and fish adapted to live under the water. Can you think of any creatures that might live in the ocean habitat and why?

Your final task is to find a toy animal at home. If you do not have a toy animal you could use a teddy bear.

Tomorrow you will be making a habitat for your toy! Think about what you have that you could use to make your habitat such as a shoe box.
