YOUR NEXT FEW DAYS......

Well done! You have made a great decision to be a student at ICMS. Being a student here is vastly different to anything you’ve ever done before and each day will be a new experience. Orientation Week (O-Week) is just a small part of what lies ahead for you at ICMS. It really is a fun time so get involved and soak it all up.

You will find, when you participate in O-Week, that ICMS is a welcoming and caring place to be. People look after one another and help each other. You will discover this when you interact with the volunteers, orientation leaders, Student Representative Council (SRC) members, Resident Assistants, and the seriously committed staff at ICMS. These people will help you to adapt to the ICMS way of life.

You might find some days a bit challenging as you settle into your study. There will be help offered to you, so make sure you take advantage of it and be sure to ask if you need some extra help or advice.

You are in a new environment. Things are different. Familiarise yourself with the culture and expectations of ICMS, then you’ll feel like you belong and you will soon be part of an incredible student experience. Get to know the people at ICMS. Life is about relationships and work is about connections and networks. You’ll learn so much at ICMS that will set you up for a life of personal and professional success if you engage with the people around you and those who teach you.

Get involved in student activities and commit yourself to learning, Give your studies priority, but keep a healthy balance with all the really great

things you can be a part of at ICMS and in the local community.

At the end of your studies, tell us what was the most valuable experience you had at ICMS. We want to know and we want to share your future successes with you. We are in this together. It is fantastic to have you here. Enjoy!

Around the campus this week you will meet some great people who will help you settle in to your ICMS student life. They will be on hand to guide you through the week and share insider tips to give you the best possible start to being an ICMS student. You won’t miss them – they will be wearing special Orientation Week t-shirts!

The Student Representative Council (SRC) strives to improve and maintain the quality of student life to the entire student body. During Orientation Week, they help with organising student activities and parties.

Your Resident Assistants (RAs) are senior student leaders who live on campus and provide all students with support throughout their time here at ICMS. The RAs are trained to be able to offer support and advice on a range of day to day matters, including emotional support, student comfort, safety and behaviour. They have undergone training to provide mental and physical first aid and emergency response. They are also a student voice and can help you to resolve issues about student life on campus.

ICMS Student Ambassadors work alongside the Domestic & International Development department to represent the College at internal and external events such as career weeks, career days, open days, school visits and information nights. Their primary role is to provide students and their families with an insight into academic and social life at ICMS based on their experiences. During O-Week, they will be around to help in any way possible.

We have fantastic current students at ICMS who spend their free time helping with the needs of new students and making O-Week a fun, enjoyable and welcoming experience for everyone. If you see a volunteer, please say hello! They’re friendly faces on campus to chat about student life, services and the campus. They will also be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
