A short distance down river from Henley-on-Thames is a small village called Hurley. Located on this winding high street off the main road to Henley (the old coach route from London to Oxford) sits an 11th Century coaching inn called The Olde Bell. Stripped back and made simple by the celebrated designer Ilse Crawford, The Olde Bell has been renovated in the spirit of the English vernacular – English oak, Ercol chairs from nearby High Wycombe and vintage rugs. Laid outlike a sprawling village with outbuildings and private gardens on either side of the lane, the main inn is for the communal activities of eating and drinking, overnight guests and local diners while the surrounding buildings are for private celebrations. The Malt House, next door to the main inn can be taken over as a private house while the Tithe Barn is perfect for big opulent celebrations.

Eating and drinking is central to the Inn. Using local suppliers from The Olde Bell’s own expanding and substantial kitchen garden, family butchers and neighbouring farms, the kitchen provides locally sourced food, served simply. The food displays a generosity of spirit in both flavours and portions, our large sharing dishes, seasonal menus, puddings that make you happy and thoughtful wine list provide the sustenance for your wedding or gathering.

The Malt House

Once the private residence of the previous owner, the Malt House is a detachedVictorian building located next door to the main inn with its own walled garden, private

entrance and tennis court. When taken exclusively the entire house, gardens and 14 bedrooms, plus a personal kitchen and service team, are yours from the start of the celebration until the following morning. Ideal for numbers of 50, we work to a minimum spend on food, drinks

and bedrooms. Enjoy the private bar and garden, relax in the library or sit by the roaring fire in the oak room. All of the bedrooms have beautiful views of the surrounding grounds

and five of the larger bedrooms have roll-top baths.

Rooms within The Malt House are for those hosting smaller private parties only. The rooms can be taken individually and bedrooms can be used across at the inn.

The Drawing Room is a long room running the length of the building with its own bar at one end and French doors leading onto the walled garden at the other.

The Music Room has high ceilings, a largefireplace and a grand piano in the big bay window which opens out onto the gardens.

The Garden Room has French doors on two sides, leading out onto the private garden. The room has a high ceiling and an enormous fireplace.

The Oak Room is a dark oak panelled room with a large fireplace and windows on two sides.

The Library is a small intimate space with dark oak panelling, an ancient collection of books and a hand painted cocktail cabinet. Perfect for pre and post dinner drinks.

Hurley and Surrounds

To get the most from the inn, guests must explore the local area. A five minute walk from the river Thames and a short drive from Henley andMarlow, The Olde Bell is located in the protected, beautiful Chilterns. Only 40 minutes from central London and with good transport links, yet surrounded by farmland and British countryside, the rolling landscape, historic towns and riverside life dictate the activities in the area.

Reserve one of The Olde Bell mountain bikes to explore the local area andfeast on an Olde Bell picnic for lunch. In summer watch the local children jump in and out of the water and swing off branches into the famous English river. Explore the historic town of Henley where local festivals including the Henley Regatta and Henley Music Festival take place. Or wander around the beautiful town of Marlow. There are also local farmers markets, vineyards, stables, golf courses, an outstanding collection of local restaurants with Bray so nearby and the very local Hurley Regatta for some family river antics. Hiring a boat from Henley Lock and slowly motoring down the river ona vintage launch is old glamour at its best. The village of Hurley itself hasmany beautiful houses, a Benedictine Church and a peaceful ancientcemetery to enjoy.
