FAST AND ABSTINENCE GUIDELINES

During Lent, healthy Catholics age 14 & older are

obligated to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday,

Good Friday and every Friday of the Lenten season. On

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday as well, healthy adult

Catholics (age 18 – 59) are required to fast, limiting food to

one full meal with minimal food at the other two mealtimes

and nothing in between.

We undertake these practices to renew our hearts and bring

us closer to God.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES

OPERATION RICE BOWL

Hungering To Build Community Palm Sunday

We follow Jesus this week on our Lenten journey

as he enters Jerusalem, a community he knew well.

CRS Rice Bowl asks us to prayerfully enter into

our own communities, to find those who are

hungry and thirsty, those who need our help. How

does our Lenten journey motivate us to serve those

we encounter in our daily lives?

Visit www.crsricebowl.org to learn more.

PARISH CENTER RENTAL

The Parish Center is available for rental to both Parishioners and Non-Parishioners for weddings, parties (birthdays, Baptisms, anniversary, etc.) or meetings. For more infor-mation please call Greg Sillen at: 845-282-4267.

ENCYCLICAL ON THE ENVIRONMENT

To some people, Pope Francis’s recent encyclical on

caring for the earth and the poor seemed like a bolt out

of the blue. But it’s actually part of a long tradition of

papal social encyclicals, dating back at least to Pope

Leo XIII’s 1891 encyclical, “On the Condition of

Labor.” And like Pope Leo, Pope Francis criticizes the

economic order for the harm it does to ordinary

people, as well as to the earth on which all God’s

creatures depend. To learn more about the Catholic

social encyclical tradition, Google: USCCB Blog:

social encyclical primer.

WHERE THERE’S A WILL… Creating a will is an important way to record and

remember what matters most to you, including

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The Endowment Fund of

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is here to help you understand

the advantage of creating a will and how you can give

it in a way to do greater good through a bequest to

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel’s Endowment Fund. What

better way to leave your legacy than in the love of

Jesus Christ. For more information contact Fr. Sean at

[email protected].
