“Role of a Teacher in Present Education System”

In India, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' Day as a mark of

tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society. 5th September is the birth anniversary

of a great teacher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was

a well-known diplomat, scholar, the President of India and above all, a teacher. When some of his

students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday,

he said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if 5th

September is observed as Teachers' day".

Profile of Speaker Dr. P. S. Sarma

Dr. P. S. Sarma graduated from Osmania University in 1962 and

completed M.Sc Engineering in 1963 and Ph.D from IIT, Kanpur in 1970. He started

his teaching career at IIT Madras in 1963. He was with IIT Kanpur, HBTI Kanpur,

ISRO-Ahmedabad, and REC Warangal before joining PSG Tech at Coimbatore as the

Professor and Head of the ECE Department in 1975.

He was with the University Mosul, Iraq and the University of Ibadan, Nigeria as a

visiting faculty and visited Top Ranking Universities in USA and Europe. He returned

to India and joined M.J. College of Engineering, Hyderabad in 1986. Dr. P.S. Sarma

established the ECE Department at M.J. College of Engineering and served as the

Head for 15 long years.

He was the Principal of Aurora Engineering College Bhuvanagiri for Three Years.

Prof. P. S. Sarma supervised several research projects and was on the Board of

Studies and Board of Faculty of Osmania University and other Institutions. He has to

his credit over fifteen research publications in National and International Journals of

repute.

His research interests are in the field of Circuit Design and Instrumentation.

He is a Life Member of IE, IETE, and ISTE.

He is the recipient of “The 2000 Millennium Medal of Honor” and “The Man of the

Year 1999” from the American Biographical Institute.

Prof P S Sarma retired as the Dean of Academics, Aurora’s Technological and

Research Institute in April 2014 after completing 50 Years of service in

Academics.
