Today’s Programme
The potential for mainstreaming innovative actionswithin Cohesion policy
Findings from the UIA assessment study
François Gallaga, European Commission, DG Regional and Urban Policy
“Mainstreaming” urban innovation within Cohesion policy?
A core ambition of the UIA: to incentivise cities to innovate and to enablethe spread of proof-tested solutions across the EU through Cohesion policyfunds invested in sustainable urban development (ERDF 5% urbanearmarking and beyond).
Multiple forms to achieve it: use UIA knowledge as an inspiration in programmes, sustainable urban
development strategies (ERDF Art. 7-9) and/or projects’ design; use programmes funding to support good quality UIA applications; use programmes funding to sustain/scale-up UIA projects in their
city/region of origin; use programmes funding to adapt/replicate UIA projects from their
original testing site to other cities, regions or EU countries.
What potential?
85% of these UIA projects address topics that are directlylinked or similar to those covered by the local SUD strategies
75% of MAsconsider UIA
topics as fully or fairly consistent

priorities
