Excavate­the­trench­for­the­drain­to­the­appropriate­level,­noting­that­you­need­to­allow­at­least­100mm­of­base­concrete­under­the­channel­for­support.­When­complete­line­the­channels­up­along­the­trench­to­ensure­all­the­pieces­are­there.

Pour­a­base­of­30­mpa­concrete­into­the­trench­and­level­out,­then­place­the­channels­onto­the­stiff­mix­of­concrete.­Using­a­rubber­hammer­you­may­have­to­tap­down­the­units­until­you­get­the­required­level.­Always­start­laying­the­drains­from­the­outlet­point­back­as­this­makes­it­easier­to­attach­the­socket­joints­together.­To­achieve­a­straight­line­use­either­a­laser­light­or­string­line­on­the­top­surface.

After­the­base­has­set,­finish­off­the­drain­by­placing­concrete­on­either­side­of­the­channel­to­the­finished­level.­

Reinforcing­around­the­base­of­the­drain­is­not­required­in­most­cases.­However­due­to­different­ground­conditions­and­applications­this­is­not­always­the­case.­You­may­need­to­seek­engineering­advice.

Remember­the­concrete­should­be­3­to­4mm­above­the­top­edge­of­the­channel.­This­will­allow­water­easy­access­to­the­drain­and­avoid­traffic­impact.

Load Class

Ground Preparation

Excavate­the­hole­to­suit­the­pit,­put­a­bag­mix­concrete­pad­for­the­pit­to­sit­on,­in­order­to­create­an­even­solid­base.

1 Pit Placement

Set­the­pit­in­place,­and­connect­the­appropriate­pipe­work­to­the­pit.­Note:­with­a­grated­pit­the­grate­sits­inside­the­pit.­A­solid­top­cast­iron­cover­sits­over­the­pit.­

2 Back Fill

Back­fill­the­hole­with­stabilised­crushed­rock­or­concrete­depending­on­the­load­classification.
