A user centred design agency that create delightful experiences, we have been working with EQ on their new product PeopleSpace2

User centred design

So here is a complex venn diagram that out show our what a UX/UCD agency does, in case you have never heard of it before, this isnt even very good and barely scratches the surface of the whole scope of user experience design, for example where is the user research.

Our approach consists of the following

Cultivate foster a user centred design culture in the organisation through training and knowledge share, we develop a cost effective way of working

Investigate we conduct across research business objectives and your customers goals, Formulate we create digital strategies Accelerate we design digital products based on real insight, we do it quickly and collaborativelyEvaluate we test, test, and test again to guarantee the digital product meets customer requirements and reduces long term costs

Innovative Design

Innovative designBusiness goalsTechnical capabilitiesUser needs

But we believe it can be simpler that that..

Principally we believe in creating innovative design.

Mobile is the key driver and focus for innovation in the current climate, smart watches could be next!

Mobile is all pervasive and is the main channel to engage withbecause practically everyone has one (hands up who doesnt have one, hands up who only has a blackberry), they are personal and accessible, and even a 12 year old can use one, actually sometimes that is probably the only way to get it to work.

But the customer and how they use the technology is the key, once you understand their goals, motivations and requirements then you can start to meet and exceed them.

We would always encourage looking at customers motivations to explore the wider context of innovation, the channel is not the most important decision and should only come once you have identified your customers requirements in line with the other two elements your business objectives and what you can achieve technically.

Investigate we conduct across research business objectives and your customers goals, Accelerate we create digital strategies and design digital products based on real insight, we do it quickly and collaborativelyEvaluate we test, test, and test again to guarantee the digital product meets customer requirements and reduces long term costsCultivate foster a user centred design culture in the organisation through training and knowledge share, we develop a cost effective way of working

Financial Digital InnovationPayments PayMApple PayPaypalZappFunding CrowdCubeKickstarterBankingAtom BankFidorHas financial services had its momentLoansMogoInsuranceGuevaraSharesKapitall

Looking at finance, often said to be the biggest of laggards, mostly down to complex expensive legacy systems, compliance and regulation issues that has been used to scare off challengers.

Commentators say that Finance hasnt has it Uber moment yet (i.e. disruptive innovation), probably because it is significantly more complex than a taxi service.

However, theres lots of innovation across the finance sector, each one of these is delivering innovation or disruption in it sector, whether it is payments, investments, business funding, banking, loans, transfers or insurance

Each one of this business fosters a different type of innovationMobile is enabling better customer engagementTechnology is enabling faster transactions Software is facilitating better use of dataSoftware Business models and propositions are structured round the customers motivations and requirements

But they all have one thing in commonThey all these companies encourage creativity &collaborationThey have conducted meaningful customers researchHave a strong team that is cross-functional, as start-ups need to be, and they arent afraid to fail fast

Financial services is a complex behemoth, it doesnt need an uber moment, but it will continue to experience dynamic innovation and disruptions to change the sector, every sector will.

Mobile innovation in shares & registration

So what is going on in this particular corner of the finance sector.6

Equiniti Shareview / Omnichannel trading

Equiniti, one of our clients is delivering an omnipresent trading platform to enable their client to transact wherever they are on whatever device.7

Arc / Insider management

Small innovations in mobile are happening that can even benefit the Company secretary particularly around Insider management

Arc is a simple tool supporting complex processes to achieve compliance and manage insidersIt provides Help those on the insider list to remember close periods through regular communications, and of course, keep track of every transactionIn a global market you can request clearance, and approve from anywhere in the world8

Mobile innovation

Moving away from Finance I wanted to demonstrate where innovation in mobile can have a profound affect on a business from a well researched customer insight, that led to a multi award winning app downloaded over 4M times.

Copy Example

Moving away from Finance I wanted to demonstrate where innovation in mobile can have a profound affect on a business because of a well researched customer insight, it led to a multi award winning app downloaded over 4M times.

Based in over 80 countries, AkzoNobel is one of the worlds leading global paints and coatings companies, with international brands such as Dulux.Webcredible carried out the product development and user-centred design to create a ground-breaking augmented reality app, The Dulux Visualizer.

Question has anyone used the app?

The challengeDulux wanted to start engaging with their customers earlier in their purchase cycle and we all believed that mobile was a great way of doing so.

Our key objective were to:Inspire, delight and make customers want to redecorate

The insight was that people didnt buy paint because there was a lack of consumer confidence with colour, and couples argue over paint, a lot!!

indecision or arguing rarely leads to a purchase, it leads to boring cheap paint.

VIDEOThrough extensive research, prototyping, design and collaboration internally with a strong team at AkzoNobel and the technical agencies the app was created

Dulux / Change perception & boost sales

Stats. Since launching in 30 global markets the app has been an unbelievable success with 4,000,000+ downloads,

Most importantly, the number of users searching for a stockist rose by an incredible 92% and tester sales increased by 65% which has led to a huge increase in paint sales.and a decrease in arguments

This success came from understanding the customers requirements, aligned with the business objectives and we pushed the boundaries of technology and actually found a real use for AR.

This led to real mobile innovation that impacted the business and achieved their objectivesbetter customer engagement and increased sales.11

Innovative Design tipscross-functional and cross-departmental team contextual customer researchencourage creativity &collaboration different types of innovationPrototype & testfail fast or early

SO on top of what Howard and Mark said I want to leave you with 5 tips to enable innovation, whether it is in mobile or for the next wearable tech.whether it is a watch, glasses, a tie or hat.

Recognise that there are different types of innovation - not just building the next iPhone or mobile app, in can be about smaller advancements like different language like First DirectCreate spaces that encourage creativity &collaboration, the right environment is important, look at what google does, what makes it work for your organisation eg our office no one has a desk but it means your surroundings are differentGet very close to your customers through meaningful contextual research, not surveys, develop empathy and understandingBuild the right team and make it cross-functional and cross-departmental - don't just segment a few special people off to an innovation lab, different experiences lead to differnt Find ways to prototype innovative products & fail fast and be brave (before you reach the final milestones)
