Well propaganda is a piece of information which is very biased or deceptive used to get a point across about a political cause or someone’s point of view. You will manly see propagandas presented on a poster and they were popular during the wars, the posters created helped a country get more recruit. There is also another technique which is very similar and that is advertising. Advertising is when a company trying to promote their products in a creative way. You see advertising pretty much everywhere you look and it is a very affective way for people to find out about your company and its products. Both propaganda and advertising use very similar techniques to get there points across and to draw people to the piece. PROPAGANDA VS ADVERTISINGWhat is propaganda? Well propaganda is a piece of information which is very biased or deceptive used to get a point across about a political cause or someone’s point of view. Unicef advertisement- this is a creative advertisement it is advertising worlds food day. It really uses the rule of thirds well as it is designed to look at the fork first then the information than what company is advertising this. The fork has been very well designed to have a double meaning, first it is a fork representing the eating of the food. It has an extra little part of the fork shows a picture of a hand, meaning give a helping hand to the people that can’t afford food. The designer has used a good use of negative space so that the fork is the first thing you look at. Over all this is a n effective advertisement that would grab someone’s eyes.

Nivea- this advertisement uses a great amount of negative space to really point out that produce they are advertising. The dark blue really shows the white moon being shown as it is representing the night in the product. After looking at the cream moon your eyes move to what the product really is and then you see the outside of the container for the cream. This advertisement is simple but effective as it gets its message across very well and is easy to read what it is.

We can do it- this designer has used a good use of size as they have made the picture of the women take up most of the post about 75% of the space. Then they have made the title about 20% making you look at this after the women and using about 5% of the poster for the logo and a little bit of information about the poster. The designer has also used a get use of the yellow negative space to really make the women the first thing you look at it really makes her pop out. These techniques used really makes this poster effective and allows it to get its point across easily.

No smoking- This poster is an affective and gets its point across very well. Negative space is used very well in this poster as it really makes your eyes drawn to the lungs. This first thing you see when looking at the poster is the lungs as it sticks out and takes up lots of the space. Then you go on to look at the cigarette then you see the little bit of writing at the bottom of the poster that says Quit Smoking. The rule of thirds is used well in this poster making you look at all the images on the poster in a curtain order. This making the poster get it point across well and creatively.

Comparing:

Looking at both these posters you can see both the designers have used very simular techniques to get their messages across. But you can see that the coke poster is trying to make you buy coke and the war poster is trying to convince you to join the war and you will have a victory job. Both poster have used negative space to make the rest of the poster to stand out and they also have both used the rule of thirds making you look at very thing on the poster in a curtain order.

Success’ and failures for thumbnails:

For all my designs, I have used pretty much the same layout and I have done this because I believe it is a really affective way to draw a person to them. The successful parts of it is that they draw people and they have big bold figures as the face of the poster. The bad things about them are that some of them don’t use many propaganda aesthetics as I would have liked them too.

Success’ and failures for produces:

The success of the poster I created was they turned out the way I wanted I wanted them to. I was able to find all the images that I wanted to produce all the posters. The one thing that failed a bit was the way illustrator made the images look it made them look sought of painted on. I wasn’t going for this look but it was the only way I could do it. The teletubbies poster looks a bit different to what I originally draw it but I was able to make it look better then I draw it.

Overall my best design was the Supergirl poster, I choose this as my best design as it used the most propaganda aesthetics. Having Supergirl a big centre point of the poster really draws people to it I also used colour that is traditional colour used in propaganda posters, this colour being the cream yellow colour. I also used the sunbeam idea with using the sun in the background. Having all these aesthetics make it a really affective piece of propaganda. After conducing this assignment I have discovered that there is a difference between advertising and propaganda. The different between them are in advertisements companies are trying to make you buy their produce and in propaganda companies are selling an idea.
