Dear Women’s Studies/ Women and Gender Studies/Directors, Faculty, Staff, Students, Independent Scholars, and Community Members: The North Dakota State University Women and Gender Studies program cordially invites you to attend the 17 th annual Red River Women’s Studies Conference, to be held Friday, October 20, 2017, in NDSU’s McGovern Alumni Center . Due to parking constraints, and in an effort to be environmentally conscious, please consider carpooling; limited parking will be available free in the IFC or AD lots adjacent to the Alumni Center. Please register by Wednesday, October 11. This year’s conference theme is “Transitions,” as our country, as well as our discipline, is engaged in transitions of many types (some good; some not so good). Our keynote speaker is feminist transgender activist, Janet Mock , who will speak and take questions the night before the conference, Thursday, October 19. Her presentation will be in the Music Education building , Festival Concert Hall at 7:00 pm, which will be free and open to the public. Ms. Mock will talk about both of her books, Redefining Realness and just-released, Surpassing Certainty. After the program, her books will be for sale, and she will be available to sign autographs. If you wish to spend the night, the Radi sson in downtown Fargo has set aside a block of rooms at $103/night for October 19 and 20. They will release the rooms to the public on Wednesday, September 26, so please make your reservations right away (701 232-7363)! Below you will find information about a call for papers and panel proposals, as well as information about conference registration. Please note that we wish to receive all submissions by Friday, September 29. The fees are as follows:

Call for Panel Topics and Abstract Submissions

PanelsPanels will include three to four presenters who will speak for 15-18 minutes each. Designate someone to chair the panel you have proposed. If you would like a respondent, please provide one.

Please submit no more than a 500-word proposal for a panel on topics related to Women/Gender Studies. Interdisciplinary topics are welcomed.

AbstractsAbstract submissions broadly covering areas of Women/Gender Studies will be considered. You do not need to submit a complete paper; however, it is assumed you will have a fully-prepared presentation at the conference.

Accepted abstracts will be placed in panels as best as possible, and presenters will have 15-18 minutes to present their papers. We will assign a moderator, and perhaps a respondent, to each paper panel.

For both panels and abstracts: Preference will be given to panel submissions that tie into this year’s theme, Transitions.Include names, institutional affiliations, and a contact mailing and email address.

Deadline for panel and abstract proposals is Friday, September 29. Email [email protected].

TablingDuring registration, and throughout the day, we will offer space for organizations that benefit women to “table” or promote themselves. An 8-foot table will be available for your use. If you wish to reserve a table, contact Ann Burnett by September 29.
