Introduction:

Since 25 August 2017, due to unrest situation in Myanmar, everyday thousands of family including their children has been trying to cross the border of Bangladesh. Some of them could cross the border and some are still waiting in border area. Sometimes they try to cross the Naf River by boat at night or following different hilly way by walking. As we informed by the project staffs in different location of Ukhiya and Teknaf, till to date, above 521 thousand individuals are stayed in Bangladesh now. Among them about 60% are children. Moreover, about 70,000 women are pregnant. According to the new influx people, still there are thousands of people staying in the border area and they are trying to come in Bangladesh any way. They are in worse situation in the border as well as in Bangladesh. Basicallythe new arrivals are staying in different registered camp, makeshifts settlements, and spontaneous settlements and also in host communities.

Goal of the project:Health Counseling for Rohingya Pregnant Mother

Main objective of the Project:To provide some sorts of nutrition and medical support as well as essential health counseling to rohingya pregnant mother so that they can ensure safe motherhood.

Material Given:Total 3 items were given to each pregnant mother. The items are:

1. One packet mother Horlicks (350 g)2. 30 Calcium Tablet (500 mg)3. 30 Iron Tablet (500 mg)

Counseling:Before distributing the material to the pregnant mother a session was taken place in distribution point. A Gyney Doctor and 2 Medical Assistants were presents. They just brief how they use the material given, what should they care during their pregnancy period and what measures they should taken until their delivery. After the brief a dua for all Muslims especial for ROHINGYA MUSLIM took place.

Total Budget:BDT 1,30,000 in word: One Lac Thirty thusand taka only. (Invoice attached)

Target Population:150 Pregnant Mother (list attached)

Selection Criteria:

Firstly, one advance team went to the Balukhali Rohingya Makeshift Settlement. After getting proper permission from the respective authority, they visited door to door to find out pregnant mothers and instantly they distributed 150 token. The team just advised to pregnant mother to come the distribution point along with token on time.

Distribution Process:With the support of Gam/TRUST, NONGOR the local organization of Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh had submitted a budget and distribution plan. After that with the suggestion of the Gam/TRUST team 3 items of materials had been procured from local market of Cox’s Bazar. Then finally on 11 October, 2017 the distribution took place. On that day, NONGOR organized the distribution program. The volunteer of NONGOR supported to pregnant mother to maintained queue. Then after health counseling and Dua, the team handed over the nutrition package to the pregnant mother one by one.

NONGOR contribution:As a potential social development organization, NONGOR is always dedicated to do anything for the deprive, underpreviledged and marginilized people all over the country. NONGOR apprecioates the initiatives taken by the Gam/TRUST for the ever sorrowful people of Rohingya Muslim. The nutrition support is really needs for the women who are pregnant anmd lactating mother. Moreover, NONGOR as a local organization here in Cox’s Bazar is recommeding to extend you support to do something more for the rohingya people.

Conclusion:The present condition of influx situation here in Bangladesh is out of description. The rohingya people who are already shifted from Myanmar to Bangladesh is living with many conbstrains. Though many national and international agencies implementing many interventions in makeshif area where the influx rohingya people staying still there are many problems and needs. In this situation. the small initiative taken by Gam/TRUST in the collaboration with NOGOR is really praisworthy. It is highly recommended to extend the supporting hands both from national and international individual/group/agencies.
