Yan Yean Road Upgrade - Stage 2Bannons Lane to Jorgensen Avenue

We're upgrading Yan Yean Road to help get you home safer and sooner

Design journey

In April 2018, we presented a design to the community that included a 2.5m wide centre median with safety barriers between Laurie Street and Jorgensen Avenue.

You told us that:

safe access is important to residents along this section of Yan Yean Road preserving the local flora and fauna is important to the community the look and feel of Yarrambat is important to local residents.

In response to community feedback and the results of our technical investigations, we refined the design to further minimise the project’s environmental and social impacts.

Our EES technical investigations revealed that the trees between Laurie Street and Jorgensen Avenue are significant foraging trees for the endangered Swift Parrot.

The investigations also found the presence of a federally protected plant species, the Matted Flax-lily.

Another important consideration for us was to provide safe access off Yan Yean Road for properties between Laurie Street and Bannons Lane.

Updated design

We’ve developed a new design that balances safety and the environment.

We'll build a wide median in the centre of Yan Yean Road between Laurie Street and Jorgensen Avenue. The wide median will allow us to retain as many of the trees in that area as possible.

We'll also build a wide road shoulder on the east side of Yan Yean Road to provide safer access for properties between Laurie Street and Bannons Lane.
