History of The Place

According to VarahaPurana, during TretaYugam, Lord Sri Rama resided here along with Sita Devi and Lakshmana on his return from Lankapuri.

The town was an established centre of Vaishnavism around the 5th century A.D. during which it was praised by Alvars. The temple rites were formalised by the Vaishnavite saint Ramanujacharya in the 11th century AD. 

The temple was built and upgraded in parts by various kingdoms. The inscriptions in the temple were found in Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages of which majority are in Tamil followed by Telugu, Kannada and Sanskrit which specify the contributions of the Pallava Kingdom around the 9th century AD, Chola Kingdom around the 10th century AD and the Vijayanagara Empire in the 14th century AD. During the 15th century, Sri TallapakaAnnamacharya sung many songs in praise of the holy town in Telugu. He compared it to be divine, including the rocks, streams, trees, animals, and adds that it is heaven on the earth. 

Climate

Monsoon remains moderate and summer experiences temperatures ranging from 35 to 40 degrees Celsius. In winter the minimum temperatures will be between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Usually summer lasts from March to June, with the advent of rainy season in July, followed by winter which lasts till the end of February.The city experiences maximum rainfall in November during northeast monsoon season

Festivals

During this festival, the processional deity Malayappa of Venkateswara Temple, along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, is taken in a procession in four mada streets around the temple on differentVahanas. Tirupati also celebrates a carnival named as Tirupati Ganga Jatra, held during second week of May every year. This is a week long festival where Goddess Gangamma (GramaDevatha) is worshiped. It will witness lakhs of Devotees taking a dip in the holy waters. VaikuntaEkadasi, the day on which it is believed that Vaikunta Doors will be opened and the most important Vasihnavitefestival, is celebrated in Tirumala and Tirupati with grandeur. Rathasapthami is another festival, celebrated during February, when Lord Venkateswara's processional deity, (Malayappa) is taken in a procession around the temple on seven different vahanas from early morning to late night. Sri Krishna janmastami also known as Gokulashtami is celebrated with great fervor at Tirupati. The Lotus Temple belonging to International Society for Krishna Consciousness(ISKCON) is illuminated with lamps and paintings displaying themes from SrimadBhagavatham.

People /cuisine and outfits

Cuisine

The local food of Tirupati is an amagamation of Tamil and Telegu cuisine, since Tirupati was a part of Tamil Nadu before 1953 and later became a part of Andhra Pradesh. Both Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have a generous use of chilli in their dishes along with spices like Cardamom, curry leaves, chili peppers, cinnamon, mustard seeds, peanuts and coconut milk, while tomato and tamarind are used for flavouring the curries. The use of rice and lentils is imperative while cooking South Indian food, rice being the chief staple food. Even though both the places have rich vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes, food of Tirupati is confined to only the former as the latter is prohibited in this holy city. The traditional wear is very important for the people of Tirupati and they strictly follow the same. In the temples of Tirupati the people in western outfits are not allowed to enter. The traditional dress for gents in Tirupati is Dhoti Panche and for ladies is sareecheera (sellai).

TirumalaVenkateswara Temple is the most notable temple for being the world's richest Vaishnavite temple of Lord Venkateswara. Beside Venkateswara Temple, the city is known for many other ancient temples, such as Padmavathi Temple at Tiruchanur, Govindaraja Temple, Kapileswara Temple at KapilaTheertham, ThathayyaguntaGangamma Temple of Goddess Gangamma is the Gramadevata of Tirupati, Sri Kodandaramaswami Temple etc.

Besides historic temples there are other tourist destinations in and around the city. Chandragiri Fort is a historical fort, built in the 11th century located in Chandragiri. The fort also host an Archaeological Museum maintained by Archaeological Survey of India. Established in 1987, Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Tirupati is the second largest zoo park in Asia, which covers an area of 5532 acres. Tirupati also hosts Regional Science centre.

Tiruchanur, Alipiri, Gandhi Road, Teerthakattaveedi, NTR Circle, Tiruchanur Road, Tilak Road, Tirupati Central bus and railway station, SriKrishnadevarayaCircle(LeelaMahal) areas are the notable ones of the city.

My experience before and after the visit

As we approached I was absolutely thrilled and exited with each passing second. I simply wanted to be inside the temple. My heartbeat was increasingas we arrived at the queue, my joy couldn’t be expressed through words. Initially we walked inside the legendary temple. The splendid experience of seeing god from such a close view. That feeling, that emotion, thosemoments were just like a dream for me. That momentwas memorable or me. I was transported to realm peace, joy and love. I cherish those moments even today and they bring happiness and joy to my heart.

My Experience while visiting Tirupati

It was the first week of October. W e planned to visit Tirupati . Our family pl anned

to reach there by flight, and it was my first experience in an aeroplane .We

reached there , booked rooms in a hotel and hired a car to go to tirumala hill to

visit tirupati temple .When I reached t he temple , I was awestruck at the glimpse

of the temple . As per the norms of thehindu mythology, my father and I shaved

our hair. Our next action was to wait in the queue. The line was moving in a slow

serpentilemotion. Finally, we stepped into the temple after a tiring experience in

the queue. But what an amazing, peaceful, wonderful experience it was! We

proceeded to have our lunch. My mind was filled with satisfacti on and my

stomach was full and my body was tired , but my mother was busy in shopping. I

pleaded her to step back to the hotel, but she didn’t and at the end I slept at the

outer area at the rest centre. After 4 to 5 hours my father woke me up and then

we went back to the hotel. Now according to our plan we bought train tickets. We

boarded the train the next morning and then returned back to Ranchi.
