Task 2 Budget b – £2275 For this assignment I have had to research and find equipment to create a small production company for a certain budget (£2275). As I had a small budget, I had to look at the most important equipment I would need. First I looked at cameras. I picked a Canon 100D as they are relatively cheap and I have had experience using them. I have been able to create productions of a good standard with the 100D, so I think it is a decent choice of camera for the production company. I searched for 100D’s on the internet and found one in a bundle package at SLR hut. The EOS Rebel SL1 DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens from Canon is a lightweight APS-C format digital SLR camera with an 18MP CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. It is combined with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for an effective range of wide-angle to standard focal length shooting options. The EOS SL1 provides sharp details, accurate colours and low-noise imaging in compact form factor with easy to use interface. A 9-point autofocus system provides fast focusing when shooting. The package also includes: Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens, 0.45X Wide Angle Lens, 2X Telephoto Lens, 3 Piece Filter Kit (UV-CPL-FLD), 16GB Memory Card, High Speed Memory Card Reader, Standard Slave Flash, Table Top tripod, LCD Screen Protectors, Cleaning Kit, Microfiber Cleaning Cloth, Carrying Case. All this comes to £449.95, near a quarter of my budget. I next searched for my editing software, I wanted to choose Final Cut Pro. I created a survey about Final Cut and sent it to fellow media students to answer. The survey was multiple choice and I asked the following questions:

Task 2

Budget b – £2275

For this assignment I have had to research and find equipment to create a small production company for a certain budget (£2275).

Do you own final cut pro?

How often do you use final cut pro?

Do you find final cut pro easy to use?

Do you think final cut pro succeeds in creating well edited productions?

How would you rate Final Cut Pro on a scale of 1 to 10? (1 being bad 10 being great.)

50.00% of people who took my survey used the software 10+ times, although 90.00% didn’t own the software. The majority (66.67%) found the software easy to use and 77.78% thought it succeeded in

created well edited productions, it was overall rated 9 out of 10 (33.33%). From my research and feedback I believe that the software will succeed in creating a production to a decent standard. To run the software I looked into MacBook’s, I settled on a MacBook Air 13.3" for £699.00 from PC world. I would the download the software from the mac app store for £199.00. My total then came to £1347.95 leaving me

with £927.05.

With my remaining budget I wanted to buy some camera accessories (lighting etc.) I sent an email to a Kenro employee inquiring into what she’d think I need to start up a small production company. She

later replied informing me on lighting equipment. She suggested a Nissin Pocket size Flashgun. Weighing in at just 203g it is ideal for travelling and incorporates a host of features such as Wireless TTL, Video light and a rotating Head. Fittings are available for Canon. It has a Focal Length range coverage of 24-105mm. The Nissin i40 has a flash output of GN40 at 105mm.The zoom range auto adjusts from 24 -105mm. The flash comes equipped with a built in diffusor that gives

coverage for a 16mm lens. A soft box is included for softening up the light output and reducing shadows. The flash head rotates 180 degrees horizontally to the right and left and tilts up 90 degrees for bounce flash applications, close up work etc. This would cost £204.00 from Kenro. She also suggested a lighting kit containing 3 Studio Flash Heads 180, 3 Lighting Tripods 220cm high, 1

softboxes 50x70cm with rear diffusor, 1 Translucent Umbrella 84cm, 1 Silver Reflection Umbrella 84cm. 1 Remote Control (wireless), 1 Sturdy Carry Case. This would come to £455.40.

I then wanted to look at microphones. I went to amazon to look for one that was affordable, but had good reviews. I found a RØDE VideoMic with Rycote Lyre Mount. The majority of the reviews were positive so I believe it will do well in creation productions. All together

the sound equipment comes to £109.00

As I had some money leftover I chose to but a clapperboard and a green screen. I decided on a green screen as my research on YouTube showed that Pewdiepie (youtuber) created high quality videos using a green screen, gaining over 5 million views. I found a clapper board on Amazon for £10.99 and an adjustable aluminium alloy Backdrop Support Stand Kit with Black , White , Green Backdrop Screen, Background Support System and Carry bag for £33.99.

With all the equipment I have found I have managed to spend £2161.33 of my £2275 budget.
