Design to Survive Project Age of Exploration–Incan Empire Welcome, Atahualpa! You are part of the greatest empire South America has ever seen! The Incan Empire! Organized, wealthy and powerful, you rule over the lands now known as Peru with an iron fist, but all is not well. Your terrace farming techniques provide plentiful food, and your remote location high atop the Andes Mountains provides supreme protection. However, your rule has been challenged by your brother, and thus fierce struggle for power has begun. You must be careful to maintain the balance of your society and continue your productivity so your reign can continue! Instructions As a charismatic and power hungry leader, you will direct your workers to build terraced gardens (in circles on a hillside) to provide food for your empire, and you will oversee the construction of your great temple, the Temple of the Moon, where you sacrifice members of other tribes to satisfy your gods and instill fear in all the land, then you will switch roles and become Spanish explorer Francisco Pizzaro, and you will craft your ship and then go to war with the Inca! Seed Code 808 (Creative Mode, Cheats OFF, Generate OFF, WiFi OFF) Step 1 – The Mountains of Machu Picchu Locate a space for your build that is high atop a hill or mountain (similar to the location of Machu Picchu). Create a beacon to help you locate your location (since it may get destroyed later). Once you have located the right space and made a beacon, continue to STEP 2.

Design to Survive Project Age of Exploration–Incan Empire

Welcome, Atahualpa!

InstructionsAs a charismatic and power hungry leader, you will direct your workers to build terraced gardens (in circles on a hillside) to provide food for your empire, and you will oversee the construction of your great temple, the Temple of the Moon, where you sacrifice members of other tribes to satisfy your gods and instill fear in all the land, then you will switch roles and become Spanish explorer Francisco Pizzaro, and you will craft your ship and then go to war with the Inca!

Step 1 – The Mountains of Machu Picchu Locate a space for your build that is high atop a hill or mountain (similar to the location of Machu Picchu). Create a beacon to help you locate your location (since it may get destroyed later). Once you have located the right space and made a beacon, continue to STEP 2.

Step 2 – Terrace FarmingThe mountain hills around you are steep and covered with rocky soil. However, your civilization has devised a method of terrace farming, called Andenes, where soil is

placed on circular steppes to allow you grow enough food. Since civil war is upon you, you must create working Andenes to feed your soldiers. For this step, you must build 6 rows of Andenes and successfully grow four different crops (potatoes,

corn, wheat, and barley). Your gardens must be at least 14 blocks long by 3 blocks thick, but you can vary the exact shape and size as you choose. You must also build one Andenes in the middle of your 6 rows that is filled with water to provide irrigation for your crops (or each Andenes could have 1 block of water). See the sample images. Once you have completed your Andenes and irrigation, continue to STEP 3.

Step 3 – Temple of AtahualpaYou can now feed your ever-growing population, but as ruler you know that it is always important to demonstrate your power. Since your father has recently passed away, you know you must glorify the passing of the Sapa Inca (emperor) by holding

a Capacocha, or ritual sacrifice. Since your society believes that children are the purest beings, you must gather 10 children as sacrifice to your great deity, the sun god Inki. However, before this can happen, you must construct a new temple for the ceremony. Your Villaq Umu (high priest) claims the gods have warned him of a great danger approaching from across the seas, and only by

satisfying the gods will you gain their favor and be protected. You will base your design on other great temples from throughout Machu Picchu. Your temple should be located on the hills above your Andenes! Your temple should be made of stone, and it must be at least 15 blocks high and each side of your base must be at least 15 blocks long. You

must build a grand staircase for you, Atahualpa, to ascend for the ceremony and a small covered platform at the top of your temple to stand on when the ceremony begins. The temple should have gold, moss, water, and fire as decorative options that you add. Each level of the temple should get progressively smaller, like a pyramid, and you should include torches to light the grand staircase and covered platform. Remember to decorate parts of the temple with the

skulls/heads of your victims so that the god Inki will be pleased. Hurry, complete your temple, some strange evil is coming and only the gods can save you. Once you have completed your temple, continue to Step 4.

Success! But wait, just before the ceremony can begin you hear strange voices on the wind!

Something has arrived…

Step 4 - Brave New World – Ahhhhh!!! The open seas! You, Francesco Pizarro, are a great explorer and you have set sail with the blessing and backing of your great King Charles I. The year is 1532 and you have set sail for new lands called the Americas with the goal of conquering and colonizing in the name of Spain! After many months at sea on your ship, the “Caravel”, you have sighted land. Your soldiers are ready and the secret spies you sent before report a weakened city located high atop the mountains , so you prepare to make the greatest conquest of your age. Guns loaded, you march towards Machu Picchu. Nothing can stop you now!

For this step, you will design a replica of Pizarro’s famous ship, the “Caravel”. You should place your ship close to the shore so it is easy for your soldiers to get to land. Your ship must be at least 18 blocks long, and it must have 2 masts, with the tallest mast at least 10 blocks high. Your ship should be made of wood, and you should include 2 different levels of decks on your ship as well. Add a fence around the decks so that your soldiers will stay on the ship to protect it, and then place 6+ soldiers on your ship to protect it. Add sails made of white cotton and fly the flag of your nation. You are now ready to blaze a trail through the mountainside. You hear the sound of strange drums and chants echoing from deep within the forest. The time has come to conquer the Inca!
