Inverted commasInverted commas show where a person in speaking. They need to include a reporting clause and a piece of punctuation after the person has finished speaking. Each new speaker goes on a new line E.g.“Come away from that hot oven!” Jane screamed nervously.“I only wanted to see if the buns were ready,” replied Dan excitedly.

Apostrophes – Possession Apostrophes can be used to show ownership of something. You need to be careful where the apostrophe goes for singular and plural words. E.g. The dog’s biscuits were crunchy. = there is one dog and the biscuits belong to it.The dogs’ biscuits were crunchy. = there are multiple dogs and the biscuits belong to them.

Fill in the table to make to words show possession. The first 2 rows have been done as examples.
