The weather was sunny with a strong downstream wind. The ten mile course presented some very challenging canoeing conditions upstream of Teddington Lock and especially at the turn just up from Raven’s Ait. The wash from the armadas of pleasure craft, compounded by the refraction from the vertical banks certainly tested the skills (and balance) of the paddlers. The Bishops Stortford canoe club C2 crew of Richard Baker and Paul Surrage have set an impressive benchmark at 1:44:03 in the Wenonah Jensen V1 A Mixer. Liz and Vicky were back again in the GS MkII C2 and dispite an impressive paddle, just missed their PB by 12 seconds. Stuart Lovell made some ground (water?) up on the C2s going upstream, but the crew boats managed the rough water better on the return leg and opened the gap. Even so he still beat his Wokingham time by 15 seconds. The only female C1 paddler, Falcon canoe club’s Lucy Perry, had a rough ride in the chop and wash, but she coped brilliantly in the conditions to beat her Reading time by over a minute and a half. Next event is being hosted by the Soar Valley Canoe Club in the Leicester area, on Sunday 13 th September. Version: 1.0 Page - 1 22 nd May 2015

Many thanks to Richmond Canoe Club for hosting the fifth round of the National Canoe Time Trial series, in conjunction with their Hasler event.
