Moez Rajput wrote about his experiences at the SOS Village Dhodial in Mansehra, Pakistan…

During December my brother and I donated 189jumpers amongst the children of SOS Village Dhodial, Mansehra in a highland valley which is surrounded by mountains up to 10,000ft high. It is about 180 Km from Islamabad. The village consists of 14 homes, a community centre and several other buildings, among them a small workshop. The focal point of the village is the beautiful playground.

I felt very happy to provide jumpers bought with my own pocket money and donations from my parents.

Michael Lawther wrote the following Diary entry following a visit to Castle Museum, York with Y6 last term)

Dear Diary,

Today me and another group of people woke up on a bed of straw and we went to get our breakfast. For breakfast I had gruel which is a horrible breakfast. I spend 16 hours in the night cell and 8 hours in the day cell where we have all our meals. Then I went for lunch, I had bread, cheese and potatoes.

After lunch all the prisoners went outside for 20 minutes with bags on our heads. We had to hold onto a rope and walk around the exercise yard. When we got back to the night cell I had to empty the bucket.

We went back to the day cell and had our tea. For tea I we had soup and stale bread. When I went to the night cell I couldn’t sleep because someone was moaning and someone else was crying I found some money and bribed the turnkey to get me out but he just put me in a cell on my own, with a bed and a fire to keep me warm.

Someone tried to escape but the turnkey hit him with a birch (a really long stick) and the man was bleeding. The man who tried to escape was transported to America. When I woke up a prisoner hit me on the head with a birch and asked me why I didn’t give them any money.

It’s always good to hear that one of our children has done something special for the community. Joseph (pictured left) took his brush and went with his mum to help the clear up after the recent floods. Well done Joseph! He has been awarded the St Matthew’s Community Award for this half term.
