Abstract. Constant temperature studies on the feeding, reproduction, and development of Amblyseius hibisci (Chant) when fed Malephora crocea (Jacq.) pollen, provided the data necessary to construct life tables and life stage developmental curves. When fed exclusively on a diet of all life forms of Panonychus citri (McGregor), none of the mature, F1 A. hibisci females deposited a single egg; moreover, complete immature mortality occurred at 32 and 35°C. Prior to their deaths, individuals of both sexes exhibited a dark red occlusion of varying sizes within the alimentary tract near the distal end ‐of the opisthosoma. This symptom was accompanied by increased lethargy, dorsal ventral flattening and‐ concaving of the body. These observations were not evident for A. hibisci fed with pollen. Pollen fed A. hibisci populations attained their optimum growth and reproductive rates at 35 °C. The intrinsic rate of natural increase, r, was found to be 0.29 individuals/female/day and the population possessed the capacity to double every 2.38 days. Constant temperature and r are closely correlated (r2 = 0.891) and the relationship is a curvilinear regression.
