AN AUDIENCE WITH PROFESSORS JONES AND MORGAN AT OPTRAFAIR 20/20 FMO is pleased to announce that two of the world’s leading contact lens and anterior eye specialists, Professors Lyndon Jones and Philip Morgan, will be speaking at Optrafair 20/20 , which runs from 4 – 6 April 2020. The addition of these two globally renowned speakers to Optrafair 20/20 is a major coup, confirming FMO’s aim to attract the best speakers within Ophthalmology and Optometry from around the world. Other sessions on the programme include the inaugural Kanski lecture, presented by world-renowned Consultant Ophthalmologist Pearse Keane, and live-streamed Femto-Second laser surgery performed by Professor Sunil Shah. Andy Yorke, outgoing Chair of FMO, said: ‘I was delighted that two of the world’s most eminent professors in their field, Professors Jones and Morgan, agreed to host what promises to be one of the premier events at Optrafair 20/20.’ Lyndon Jones is a Professor at the School of Optometry & Vision Science and Director of the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. He graduated in optometry from the University of Wales back in 1985 and gained a PhD in 1998 from Aston University before emigrating to Canada. He holds three of the higher clinical awards awarded by the UK College of Optometrists, as well as being a Fellow of the BCLA and was awarded an honorary DSc by Aston in 2018. He was awarded Fellowship of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2017 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is also a registered Optometrist in the UK and Canada. As University Research Chair, he has concentrated primarily on the interaction of novel and existing contact lens materials with the ocular environment, dry eye diagnosis and management

He was awarded Fellowship of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2017 and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is also a registered Optometrist in the UK and Canada.

As University Research Chair, he has concentrated primarily on the interaction of novel and existing contact lens materials with the ocular environment, dry eye diagnosis and management and ocular drug delivery. He has delivered over 1000 lectures worldwide, spread over 40 countries.

Philip Morgan is Professor of Optometry, Deputy Head of the Division of Pharmacy and Optometry and Director of Eurolens Research at the University of Manchester. His research interests concentrate on the clinical performance of contact lenses. Since 1996 he has managed an international survey of contact lenses.

He is the Immediate Past President of the International Society for Contact Lens Research and VP of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the BCLA. He has authored over 200 papers, most related to the clinical performance of contact lenses and the nature of the UK and international contact lens market.

The two speakers will lead a clinical-based session covering the major issues in modern contact lens practice, discussing how to optimise patient care and maximise the success of

contact lenses. They will also be providing hands-on training at Optrafair 20/20’s Dry Eye Tech Live session. Visitors wanting meet or ask questions to Jones and Morgan will also be able to find them in Profs’ Corner.

The Federation of Manufacturing Opticians (FMO) is aiming to attract 10,000 visitors to Optrafair 20/20 by broadening the appeal of the show and making it all inclusive to interest all sectors of the optical industry, including not only frames, lenses and equipment, but also Ophthalmology, Optometry, contact lenses, IT, finance, audiology and pharmaceuticals.

Other brand-new features that will be announced over the coming weeks include the President’s Address, Style Awards, Optical Question Time, a whole host of CET sessions, an Independent Lab Zone, lectures examining the impact of optics on the environment and a University Village.
