TOURISM CLUB ACTIVITIES 2016 -17

1. Shri. M.G. Rajamanickam I.A.S. District Collector, Ernakulam inaugurated the tourism club activities on 28th July 2016.

3. Organic Vegetable fest was arranged to promote organic farming among students. Organic food production strictly avoids the use of all chemicals. It does not pose any threat to soil and underground water .Conventional farming uses tons of artificial fertilizers and pesticides harmful to humanity and environment. Tourism club members brought vegetables and fruits grown in their kitchen garden for sale. Homemade pickles and jams were also put to sale.

4. Mehendi fest was organized as part of fund raising programme. It was a display of artistry as the participants at the Mehendi festival drew intricate designs on palms. The designs started from the forearms and ended at the tip of the fingers. Some designs started from the upper arm also.

5. As part of inaugural day celebrations, the tourism club conducted a painting competition named–‘discover the budding artist in you’ for school students. Around 60 students from in and around the city schools participated in the competition.

6. Painting competition winners received their prizes from Dr. Raji Joseph (Dept of Commerce) and Honey Rose (cine artist) on August 25, 2016 in a college fest conducted in our college.

7. To promote Kerala tourism, the tourism club of our college conducted a weeklong celebration called VISMAYA 2016 with a tagline “Nurturing Nature through Tourism” from 16th December 2016 to 20th December 2016.

8. Interaction with a foreign delegate: Ms. Guicy Panicko from Ireland visited our college on 16th December 2016 as part of the Tourism week celebrations. She interacted with the club members and expressed her happiness in selecting Kerala as her tourist destination.

9. Picturesque: Photography Competition: Photography freezes precious memories and glorifies our existence. Through the camera lens, we savour the kaleidoscope of life in its various dimensions. With subtle aesthetic sense the lens unveils the world- captures and captivates moments. Tourism Club in association with photography club organized a photography competition on 17th December 2016 named “Picturesque” for higher secondary and college students.

10. Strategic Strike – Battle of Wits: Debate Competition: Tourism Club in association with Debate club organized a Debate Competition “Strategic Strike – Battle of Wits” for school students. Topic given was the Impact of Tourism on nature.

11. Bliss On Wheels: India’s ubiquitous three-wheeled Auto, the humble transport that’s become the international symbol of India across the globe, completes 60 years. On this occasion the tourism club along with English Department honoured Auto Drivers in Aluva, who have completed 25 years of service. Ms. Honey Rose, Cine artist felicitated the gathering. Mr. C.K Prasad, ADM & secretary DTPC, Ernakulam, graced the occasion with his enlightening speech.

12. Frozen Moments - Tableau Competition. An Interdepartmental Tableau Competition was organized for our students. The theme of the tableau was “festivals of Kerala”

13. Ethnic day Celebrations: Ethnic day was observed as part of the tourism week celebrations. It was mandatory for all students to come in traditional outfits. It gave the students an opportunity to celebrate different cultures and traditions of Kerala. The main message of the celebration was to respect the traditions and recognize the culture of the others.  The students wore traditional attires and took part in the ethnic day rally. Ms Jiby Mather, Municipal Councilor, flagged off the rally.

14. As part of the tourism week celebrations, Mr. C.K Prakash, ADM and Secretary DTPC visited our college and addressed the club members.

15. Tourism Club members of our college visited The Kochi-Muziris Biennale, an international exhibition of contemporary art held in Kochi, Kerala. It was the first Biennale of its kind that was held in India. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale was an initiative of the Kochi-Biennale Foundation with support from the Government of Kerala.

16. Talk by educationist from London: Miss Linda Maud Matley, Governor of schools in London (specialization in European language from University of London) addressed the tourism club members about the prospects of higher education abroad. She spoke eloquently on education abroad: opportunities and challenges. She urged the students to make use of every opportunity and to face the challenges for a better future.

Miss Jennifer O' Brian (specialization in European language from University of London), colleague and friend of Miss Linda interacted with the students. The students expressed their desire to go abroad but at the same time they also raised the difficulties and problems they have to face while opting for education abroad.

17. PADDY HARVEST: Our club members took part in Koythulasavam (paddy field harvesting fest) at Kondopadam, Kuttamassery, Keezhmadu Panchayath. Sri Innocent, MP inaugurated the programme by sowing the paddy. The pleasure of being in the fields was evident on the faces of club members, as they sowed the rare variety of paddy and held sickles for the first time.

18. Sri Rajamanickam IAS, Ernakulam District Collector planted a Guava sapling in our college. He put forward the idea to plant fruit bearing saplings so that our generation and the future generation could saviour the taste of our native fruits. This is actually a simple venture which could be undertaken by every one-he suggested .He advised the student community to be more eco friendly and urged them to undertake projects aimed at conserving nature, in the sense to build a beautiful nature thereby attracting tourists to our state.

19. Tourism club members participated in an International seminar for peace and international relations held at Loyola Research Institute of Peace and International Relations, Ponoth Road, Kaloor, Kochi. The club members and the invitees from abroad interacted and exchanged their views about establishing peace and harmony through healthy tourism.

20. The Tourism club subscribes Mathrubhumi Yathra, the Complete Travel Magazine. It is really a guide and companion for travel lovers. It highlights attractive and less trodden tourist destination. The magazine provides a picturesque portrayal of places and its description by woeing the readers to make a trip to these places at least once in their life time.

The Tourism Club received the Best Club Award instituted by the Government of Kerala for the year 2014-15. The award distribution ceremony was held on 18th December 2016 at Sargaalaya Kerala Arts and Craft Village, Iringal Kozhikode. Rev. Sr. Reethamma, the Principal along with the teacher co-ordinator Dr. Lima Antony received the award from Sri.Pinarai Vijayan, the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala

Ms. Natasha Biji Joseph of third year Communicative English also received the State Award for the Best Student Co-ordinator.

Documentary on Aluva is prepared by Tourism club members. Historically and culturally significant tourist spots and the myth and legends associated with these places are beautifully etched in the documentary. Aluva and its locale, Periyar River and its tributaries, temples and rituals are an integral part of the life of an average Aluvite. The documentary provides a visual treat and a wonderful experience to the viewers.
