I am going to start off by creating a new working page. I will work on a Portrait A4 page. The dimensions of the page will be 21 cm x 27.9 cm. Then I will work from a magazine that I will also use to copy the whole layouts and design. I have chosen ‘MOJO’ magazine to do this and the magazine that I will be creating will be named ‘DnB’ which stands for Drum And Bass. The band I will be featuring on the front cover is going to be Pendulum which is a DnB band.  I have chosen this because I think it will be useful when it comes to doing my final magazine which will also be based on Music genre.

Now that I have established the magazine and layout I will be following, I will start to work on my ‘pieces’ of the puzzle. I won’t be able to find the picture as a whole of the band in a similar position and angle like in the MOJO magazine, therefore I will have to cut out the band members from different images and position them in a similar manner. For me to be able to do this, I will be using the software ‘Photoshop CS 4’ as it is an image editing software and I will use the tool called the Lasso tool. This will help me cut around the edge of the members and later position them properly by using the Move tool. Also I created a new layer by pressing ‘ctrl + n’ and filled it with black to go in the background.

I have now created the image of the band members that will go on the cover. I will now need the name of the band that will go under their picture. I found this picture of their name in multicolour. I will need to make it all white. So I will use the tool called Hue and Saturation. This tool will help me to change and play around with the colours of the text. Now that I have made it white, I need a glowing effect. This can be done by clicking on the ‘fx’ sign on the bottom of the layer palette and choosing ‘Outer glow…’. After playing around with the effect, I finally got the right amount of light glowing around

the text. I then tilted the text a little to resemble the text that of the magazine I am copying from. I did this by pressing ‘ctrl + T’ and the rotation it to the left.

Now that I have completed the main bit, I am going to add little details. I have made up the cover lines that is going to go on my magazine. I have stuck to the colours, size and tried to get the best look alike font for the text. I have positioned them pretty much exactly as to that of the MOJO magazine. Now I had to make the little insert on top right. For this, I just drew a grey circle and a darker one behind it. Then I used the ‘Marquee Tool’ to select the unneeded parts and pressed ‘Delete’ to remove them.

I had to then make a CD that goes on the bottom left of the cover. First I got a picture of a CD case and used the ‘Magic Wand Tool’ to quickly select the white background and then I pressed Delete to remove it. Then I searched for a CD Album cover by Pendulum and placed it over the CD case layer. I resized the image by pressing ‘ctrl + t’ and held down Shift so that the image kept its original shape. I repeated the step for the left side of the CD case. For the coverlines, I just drew a text box by using the Text tool and used an appropriate font and chose similar colours to that of MOJO magazine.

Lastly, I copied a barcode image and pasted on my work and repositioned it so that it fits perfectly like on the MOJO magazine.
