GIMP Text Tutorial – Rock Text
1) Create a new file (File > New) and set image size as below. Hit OK.
2) Click on the Text Tool located in Toolbox, and have your settings set to what is below.
3) Next, type the word ‘ROCK’ onto your canvas. Select the “Move Tool” (located in ToolBox) and move your text to the Center Left side of the canvas (as shown).
4) Next, click the “Duplicate Layer” logo located at the bottom of your “Layers” box. You should have a layer appear called “ROCK #1.” Click on the eye symbol next to layer “ROCK”. Then, right click on “ROCK #1” layer and select “Alpha to Selection”.
5) Next, click “Select > Grow”
6) Set the Grow Selection to 2 and hit OK
7) Next, click your Bucket Fill tool located in your Toolbox (#1). Then, select Pattern Fill in the Tool Options (#2). Next, click on the image under Pattern Fill (#3). Click on the image highlighted in #4 to create a list of options you can choose from. Finally, select “Dried Mud”.
8) Click on “Fill whole selection” in Tool Options
9) Click inside the letter “R” to fill the pattern you have created. It should look like the image below.
10) Next, select Colors > Threshold
11) Select the options to image below
12) Next, make a duplicate of “ROCK #1” layer to make “ROCK #2” layer (hint: see step 4)
13) Next, select Filters > Artistic > Oilfy. Hit OK to the box that appears.
14) Next, select Colors > Invert
15) Next, hit Select > None
16) Click on “Select by Color” Tool, and click on black area inside “R”
17) Choose Select > Invert
18) Delete “ROCK #2” Layer (right click, select Delete Layer)
19)Make sure “ROCK #1” layer is selected, then high Edit > Clear
20) Choose Select > None
21) Choose Filters > Light and Shadow > Lighting Effects
22) Select the following options as image below. Make sure the blue button is where it should be, and hit OK
23) Select Décor > Add Bevel
24) Select options as image below
25) We are going to select Filters > Repeat “Add Bevel”. Do this again one more time.

26) Choose Filters > Artistic > Clothify
27) Set options to image below.
28) Choose Colors > Colorize
29) Set options to image below
30) Turn on middle layer by pressing the eye icon. Make sure it appears
31) Make sure the middle layer is selected
32) Select Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur
33) Set options to image below
34) Click Filters > Light and Shadow > Drop Shadow. Set options to image below and click OK.
