Book Review Corner – Students in Mrs. Leventhal’s class made bookmarks based off of picture books and short stories as part of a class assignment. Here are some examples of what they wrote. Come check these books out of the library!

Thank You Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco – Giana Cordovano wrote “ Mr. Falker is a teacher that teaches a little girl Trisha to keep going and read.” Eliza Kaplan said “Trisha Knew everyone in her grade could read. In every grade Trisha tried harder and harder to accomplish her goals.”

The short story “Spaghetti” from the book Every Living Thing by Cynthia Rylant – Ryan Dobbs said the short story “Spaghetti is about a boy named Gabriel who wants to live outside among the coyote’s.” Hajirah Akhter wrote that “the main point is to be thankful for what you have and never forget that because some people don’t have beds, houses, and food.”

Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson – Kyle Loccisano wrote that “a new girl, Maya, is in Chloe’s class and Chloe’s friends are making fun of her.” Sean O’Connell said that Maya ended up “sitting next to Chloe. Chloe did not like her that much and started saying mean things about her. When she moved Chloe was sorry for being so mean.”

Owl Moon by Jane Yolen – Eduardo Aguirre wrote that “this story is about a young girl and her father.” They “go owling but they don’t find one, but they don’t give up so at the end they find one.”

Roman Penalbert’s Riddle of the Month

“Why do people never bring food to the beach? Because there’s sand which is everywhere.”
