Questions to Ask About the Story

It can sometimes be difficult to understand and explain how we know that God’s word is true. Kids and adults all wrestle with doubts. This message uses the story of Thomas to remind children that if we believe in Jesus we are called blessed. We cannot always know things beyond a shadow of a doubt, but through faith and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we trust the reality of the Bible.

Talk About It

1. What’s your favorite part of the “The Story of a Doubting Thomas” video? What’s one thing you learned from it?

2. Make a list of outrageous things people say they’ve seen but can’t prove. (UFO’s, BigFoot, Unicorns)

3. Why were the 12 disciples important to Jesus?4. If you were around in Jesus’ day, how would you have responded to hearing that he

rose from the dead?5. Why do you think Jesus doesn’t get mad at us for our doubts? What does he want

us to do with them?6. Read Psalm 9:10. Why is God worthy of our trust? What does this verse say God

will never do?7. How will you apply this lesson to your life this week?

Craft Activity – Doubting Thomas

A Craft To Challenge DoubtThe Bible tells us in John 20:24-29 about Thomas, who was a follower of Jesus. Thomas didn't believe that Jesus had risen from the dead, even when he heard it from the other disciples! He said "“Unless I see the nail holes in His hands, put my finger in the nail holes, and stick my hand in His side, I won’t believe it.” Eight days later, Jesus shows up and tells Thomas to put his finger in His wounds, Jesus speaks these powerful words to Thomas, “Stop doubting and believe”. 

This weeks craft is a paper hands pop-up of Jesus’ hands with a piece of scripture that your little makers can weave through Jesus’ wounds. We hope this craft serves as a powerful lesson that just because you can’t see something with your eyes, doesn't mean it is not real.

Cut + Paste:Cut along dotted lines and fold along solid lines. Then cut around Jesus + the boat, fold and glue where it says so to place both in the right place.

Color and Decorate: Color the hands and backgrounds according to the picture above or with whatever colors you choose. You can decorate the with glitter, stickers or any other material you can think of. Color the heart on each hand red. Color the scripture verse yellow.

Learn + Transform:Sometimes it’s hard to believe something we can’t see. After weaving the scripture that Jesus commands through His wounds, we hope it serves as a reminder to your little makers that seeing isn’t believing.
