NewsTreat BoxesOur Treat Boxes are a success! This year there will be a Spring Treat Box, a Summer/Autumn one and, of course, the Christmas Treat Box. Sign up for all four throughout the year and receive a £10 gift voucher as a thank you in your Xmas Box.

PricesIn March 2019, the UK is set to leave the European Union. By the time of writing this newsletter, we still don’t know whether there is a deal and what exactly is going to happen. We do expect prices of fabric and haberdashery to go up because of the (at the moment) weak pound. As a small business, we have no option but to increase our prices if our suppliers increase theirs.

Unfortunately we also have to increase the price of our classes. A one-day class will now cost £45, eight-week quilting classes will cost £75 and Quilty Pleasures

classes £65. It is still less than £5 for an hour of tuition and generally less than many other/similar courses cost. It is four years ago since we last increased the prices of our classes. We appreciate your understanding.

Mhairi recommends a book:Mhairi says: ‘One of my favourite books at the moment is “100 Quilts by Stuart Hillard”. Great photography, really good mixture of modern and traditional quilts; fabric requirements are in inches and centimetres (always useful for us in the shop), templates, although not full size, are all included. He advocates using scraps as well. Value (hardback) for £22.95 and a great gift for a quilter. Stuart was a contestant on ‘the Great British Sewing Bee’ and has turned to quilting. He is a regular presenter on ‘Create and Craft’.

However, all students in all of our classes will have the use of our own Husqvarna machines which will be at a ratio of 1 student per machine this class session. On our regular patchwork and quilting classes we offer the current students the “right of refusal” on their current place with a commitment to the next term and payment in full by Thursday 10 January. If and when you have booked yourself a place on a course and we have to make changes, we will inform you as soon as possible to offer you an alternative day or a full refund. Trudy’s Can’t Do Without GadgetMy ‘can’t do without gadget’ are the ‘Sew Mate’ quilting gloves.

I wouldn’t believe at first that they would make any difference but once I tried, I

wouldn’t do without them. They fit very nicely and are breathable and thus comfortable. The grip they provide on the fabric makes machine quilting – whether it is stitch in the ditch or free motion- and machine embroidery so much more accurate. Can’t do without! You can try them out in the workroom if you want.
