I would like to welcome you and your child to the start of fourth grade! We are going to have a busy and productive year, filled with exciting

learning activities, social events, and so much more.Throughout the year, I will keep you informed of everything that is

going on in our class as well as your child’s progress and all of the activities that will make this a successful and memorable year.

In order to have a smooth year, I want to share important information with you:

Students must be in class, quietly seated by 8:15 am. Students must bring their book bags, school materials, and

homework to class every day. Students cannot bring permanent markers, toys, trading

cards, hats, IPods, cell phones, electronic games, etc. to school.

Four missed or incomplete homework assignments, improper uniform, and/or misbehavior may lead to a detention.

Three detentions for the same reason may lead to a referral with an administrator. Class activities may also be taken away on the 3rd detention per 9 weeks (field trips, field day, parties, etc.)

If your child is absent, please complete an Absence Notification Form (ANF) stating the reason for the absence and the date(s) he/she was absent, when he/she returns to school. Missed assignments must be made up in class between 7:40 and 8:05 a.m. Graded assignments CANNOT be completed at home. If you cannot make it before school starts, your child will be pulled from a special area to complete their make-up assignment.

Students with unexcused absences will receive a grade of “Z” on all missed graded assignments given on the day of the absence as per school policy.

Carefully read the Parent Handbook for all policies and procedures.

Plagiarism, or copying another person’s work, is against school board policy and will not be accepted. Please discuss this serious issue with your child.

My teacher webpage is available for parents to view classroom information. Please visit the site weekly for news updates and other important information pertaining to our class and school.

It is important that we work together as a team to help your child succeed. Remember that a child’s success is a team effort- teacher, parent, and student. I

look forward to a great year with your child. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me via email or through your child’s agenda.

Dear Parents,

I am your child’s 4th grade teacher, and I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too. I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations.

I will be expecting all home learning assignments to be completed at home and turned in to me the following morning. Students will have a reading log Monday- Thursday.

In addition, I will be assigning projects in various subjects throughout the school year. Projects are to be completed at home. Your help and support will not only make your child more successful in school this year but will instill good study habits that will last a lifetime.

Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. I am available every day to talk with you between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at 305-257-3737 or [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns during the year.

Sincerely,Mrs. Pastrana

Classroom Discipline Plan I have developed a discipline plan to help each student manage his/her own behavior. Every child deserves a positive learning environment to learn in. This plan will give everyone the opportunity to do so in a fair and consistent environment. Rules

I will come prepared with homework and school supplies every day. I will be using Class Dojo to monitor behavior. Please make sure to

download the app on your phone. Class Dojo will allow you to monitor their behavior throughout the day. I will also be using Class Dojo as a source of communication.

Home Learning Schedule & Policy

Homework is an extension of the daily learning; therefore, its purpose is to help students reinforce the day’s lessons. Students will receive Home Learning daily. Home Learning will consist of reading and language arts activities related to the skills taught in class. Your child’s Social Studies home Learning will vary (study guides, projects). Projects will be assigned throughout the year.

* Please note assignment(s) may change, but students will have their homework assignments written in their daily agenda. Parents please take some time to check your child’s agenda daily to verify homework.

1. Students are responsible for copying their Home-Learning assignments in their agenda every morning. It is expected that Home-Learning be done nightly and returned the following day. Home work is checked daily and we keep track of their complete/incomplete homework with a homework log.

2. Home-learning must be completed entirely, neatly, and in the student’s handwriting in order to receive full credit. Homework will not be accepted if it does not meet these requirements.

3. If a student is absent, they are still responsible for completing the homework for that day as best they can and bring it when they return to class.

4. If Home-Learning is lost, the student is responsible for finding out what the assignment was and completing it.

5. FOUR missed or incomplete home-learning assignments will result in a detention. Detentions will be served only in the mornings before school begins. If you cannot bring your child before school begins he/she will serve their detention during a special area class.

6. THREE detentions or more in any given nine week period will result in the student not attending field trips or school functions.

7. Special projects will be assigned periodically throughout the year and must be completed in the student’s handwriting.

I have read over the important information regarding home learning with my child and we understand the third grade home learning

policy.

Florida Standard Assessment (FSA)

In Florida, all fourth grade students are required by the state to take a reading proficiency test, writing test, and math test. The purpose of the Florida Standards Assessment is to evaluate student attainment of the critical thinking skills represented in the Standards for Reading and Mathematics in the fourth grade. The achievement levels range from 1-5.
