A review on all-perovskite multiferroic tunnel junctionsYuewei Yin* and Qi Li**

pp.245–254

Key functional properties and recent progress of all-per-ovskite multiferroic tunnel junctions (MFTJs) are re-viewed.

The origin of TER effect in MFTJs with nominally sym-metric electrodes is discussed.

Four-state effect up to room temperature and how even more non-volatile states may be achieved are dis-cussed.

Ferroelectric controlled spin polarization and transport in MFTJs is discussed.

A brief and constructive outlook is given.

The latest development of ZnO optical cavity based microlasers has been systematically reviewed.

The synthesis of ZnO optical cavity with regular geometrical structure and optical analysis.

Fabry-Perot mode lasing and whispering gallery mode lasing with dif-ferent morphologies.

New nano/micro fabrication technique and physical effects may derive the microlaser progress.

Ordered coalescence of nano-crystals in alkaline niobate ceramics with high remanent polarizationZhijian Shen*, Daniel Grüner, Mirva Eriksson, Lyubov M. Belova, Ce-Wen Nan and Haixue Yan

pp.267–272

We report significantly en-hanced ferroelectric remanent polarization (Pr), of alkaline niobite Na0.5K0.5NbO3 (NKN) prepared by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS).

The significantly enhanced ferroelectric Pr of NKN was attributed to nanoscale sub-boundaries, which stimulated the dynamics of ferroelectric domain formation and switch-ing.

Grain boundary engineering with nano-scale InSb producing high performance InxCey-Co4Sb12+z skutterudite thermoelectricsHan Li, Xianli Su, Xinfeng Tang*, Qingjie Zhang, Ctirad Uher, G. Jeffrey Snyder and Umut Aydemir**

pp.273–279

High performance nanostructured InxCeyCo4Sb12+z was prepared by MS-SPS pro-cess.

Ce acts as the main filler atom, whereas In forms a uniformly distributed nano-sized InSb phase at the grain boundaries.

The in-situ formed nano-InSb phase plays a ma-jor role in reducing the thermal conductivity.

zTmax reaches 1.5 at 800 K for the MS-SPS-pre-pared In0.2Ce0.15Co4Sb12/InSb nanocomposite.

We used charge gradient microscopy (CGM) to image ferroelectric domains of lithium niobate.

We applied principal component analysis (PCA) to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio.

We found CGM signal increases linearly with the scan speed while decreases with the temperature under power-law.

Two imaging mechanisms: scraping and refilling of surface charges within domains, and polarization change across domain wall.

We estimated the spontaneous polarization and the density of surface charges in agree-ment with literature data.

High-thermoelectric performance of TiO2-x fabricated under high pressure at high tem-peraturesHaiqiang Liu, Hongan Ma*, Taichao Su, Yuewen Zhang, Bing Sun, Binwu Liu, Lingjiao Kong, Baomin Liu and Xiaopeng Jia**

pp.286–292

HPHT was employed for the fabrication of thermoelectric titanium oxide for the first time.

Multi-scale hierarchical TiO2-x was achieved by our strategy.

Ubiquitous lattice defect engineering was realized in our samples by HPHT.

A rather low thermal conductivity (1.60 W m−1 K−1) for titanium oxide was reported here for TiO1.76.

The highest zT value of 0.33 for nonstoi-chiometric TiO2 was obtained in our sample TiO1.76.

Orthorhombic SnSe films are deposited using pulsed laser deposition.

Optimized deposition temperature of SnSe film is 330 °C.

Nanopillar structure observed on sample deposited at a glancing angle.

TE performance of film deposited at a glancing angle is greatly enhanced.

Enhancement can be attributed to po-tential barrier scattering at grain boundaries.
